Hebrews or Israelites have very little if anything in common with modern Jewry. They are not ethnically the same. The people that Moses led out of Egypt were NOT Jews, they were Israelites.

EDIT: Whether Schlomo is right or wrong about the exodus or that the Roman destruction and removal of Jews from Palestine never happened ... the ashkenazi were NEVER even close to being involved !
