I've rescued a brown pelican once that I found on the beach. Took a fish hook out of him and he was just thrilled. He took off like nobody's business. These are some of my favorite birds. Spectacular aerial navigators and fishermen. BTW, speaking of Gulf 'canes, some of the long-range models are looking for a western Caribbean low to form in about 10 days. Some of the solutions look like they want to take this as a tropical storm pretty much straight north where we least want to see it. I'm gonna be watching this. It is not an unlikely scenario this time of year.

If the poor critter was in distress it could have starved to death before the tiniest carbon steel hook rusted away. It's always good to read about such rescues, that is, those with happy endings.
