Immigration & Last Night's Primary Results

alt="" title="">

In the biggest Primary day of the year, voters seemed to nudge a bit in the direction of immigration policies that protect U.S. workers and communities.

But the fact that nearly all incumbents were renominated by their Parties means that real change on immigration will depend on the General elections in the autumn.

Whether the General Election challengers to incumbents will offer voters a clear choice for immigration reductions will depend largely on whether citizens push candidates to commit themselves publicly and take the NumbersUSA immigration survey. Go to our congressional elections pages to see if your favorite candidates have taken the survey. If not, contact them and insist they do so.

MANY DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES TOOK OUR PRO-ENFORCEMENT SIDE

We had a lot of Democratic candidates who filled out our immigration survey and pledged to help us with our goals. They were challenging Democratic incumbents who are pro-amnesty. It was an uphill battle for our Democratic friends going against the money and connections of an incumbent in a Primary. But it was most gratifying to see more and more pro-enforcement, pro-reduction candidates showing up on the Democratic side of the ballot.

Below is based on observations from our Legislative Analyst Jonathan Osborn and our Website Editor Chris Chmielenski about yesterday's Primary election results.

Arkansas:
Sen. Blanche Lincoln's 52% squeaker/shocker win in the Democratic Run-Off means that Arkansas voters will have a very clear choice on immigration in the autumn. It would have been less clear if Lt. Gov. Halter had won because he has been careful to avoid taking a position on most immigration issues. But if he had won, he would have owed the SEIU labor union everything, and that union has been the most vigorous in pushing for an amnesty.

Voters won't have to wonder about Sen. Lincoln, who has www.numbersusa.com/conten...ss/22/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank">earned a D-minuswww.numbersusa.com/conten...ss/22/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank"> Immigration-Reduction Grade during these last two Congresses.

She will be facing the winner of the Republican Primary, www.numbersusa.com/conten.../1065/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank">U.S. Rep. John Boozeman who has earned an A+ grade.

Furthermore, Rep. Boozeman is a member of our www.numbersusa.com/conten...n-reduction-bills.html-0" target="_blank">"5-for-5 Club," having co-sponsored all of our "5 Great Immigration-Reduction Bills."

In addition, Rep. Boozeman has earned our True Reformer label by taking our candidate immigration survey and promising to help us on all 12 of our top goals.

Boozman currently has a 20+ lead in the polls over Lincoln.

Nevada:
Here's another state that will get a clear immigration choice in November when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will have to defend his seat.

Reid's Immigration-Reduction Grade over the last two Congresses is an www.numbersusa.com/conten...s/556/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank">F-minus! And he continues to be the main person in Washington clamoring for an amnesty and an increase in foreign workers during 10% unemployment.

www.numbersusa.com/conten...ion-enforcement-law.html" target="_blank">Sharron Angle won the GOP nomination yesterday to challenge Reid in the autumn. She is the opposite of Reid on immigration, having taken our survey, agreed to help us on all of our goals and earning the title of True Reformer. She is leading Reid by two points in the polls.

California

Meg Whitman didn't fill out a survey, but does rate "Yes" on three issues and has taken a very strong stand since SB1070. True Reformer Steve Poizner finished second and pushed Whitman to take the strong stand on immigration.

Carly Fiorina won the GOP nomination, but hasn't said much about immigration. She has traditionally been shaky on immigration, but was pulled in our direction during the Primary because her competitors were strongly on our side. Polls have her running within the margin of error against www.numbersusa.com/conten...ss/49/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank">Boxer who has a D grade. Members of both political Parties need to push their candidates to compete with each other in promising more enforcement and less foreign-worker competition.

In the 27th District of the U.S. House, True Reformer Mark Reed won the GOP Primary.

In the 42nd District of the U.S. House, incumbent Gary Miller narrowly won the GOP Primary over Phil Liberatore. Both took our survey and qualify as True Reformers (http://www.numbersusa.com/content/elections/races/southwest/california/2010-california-42nd-district-primary.html)

In the 53rd District of the U.S. House, True Reformer Michael Crimmins is leading in the GOP Primary. (http://www.numbersusa.com/content/elections/races/southwest/california/2010-california-53rd-district-primary.html)

Iowa
True Reformer Ben Lange won the GOP Primary and will face www.numbersusa.com/conten.../1235/reportcard/RECENT/" target="_blank">Bruce Braley and his F Grade.(http://www.numbersusa.com/content/elections/races/congressional/house-election/2010-iowa-1st-district-race.html)

I repeat my request to all of you that you go to our candidate pages and see which ones (most of them) haven't made pledges on immigration. Then, push, push and push some more to get them to take our survey.
