MONROE, Ohio – A six-story-tall statue of Jesus

Christ with his arms raised along a highway was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm Monday night and burned to the ground, police said.

The "King of Kings"

statue, one of southwest Ohio's most familiar landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati.

The

lightning strike set the statue ablaze around 11:15 p.m., Monroe police dispatchers said.

The sculpture, 62 feet tall and 40 feet wide at the base, showed Jesus from the torso up and was nicknamed

Touchdown Jesus because of the way the arms were raised, similar to a referee signaling a touchdown. It was made of plastic foam and fiberglass over a steel frame, which is all that remained early Tuesday

I guess this was the biggest "MONUMENT" in OHIO.

The Romans had the Parthenon, Buckeyes had Big Butter Jesus.

This is about 20 minutes from where I work, have seen it many times, it truly is a representation of the values of most Ohioans........ pathetic.

Bite your tongue.

It's very representative of Cincinnati and southern Ohio, which is neocon heaven. Go to central Ohio (and out of southern Ohio) and we're an entirely different people.

You work in Ohio? How is it we haven't gotten together for a drink yet?

Yep, I'm a stranger in a strange land.

Beavercreek to be exact, wish it was Colorado.

And I will drink to that, it's getting close to Shot-Thirty....lol

Cincy is a creepy place. Never did like it. Pretty sky line at night, but that's about it. Very dirty city and way too bible thumping.

Beavercreek to be exact, wish it was Colorado.

Way out west eh? I used to set up a small display at the Springfield Antique Mall, which is the closest I've been to Beavercreek. Not really been through Dayton that I can remember. I'm just north of Columbus, in Delaware county.

And I will drink to that, it's getting close to Shot-Thirty....lol

If you're serious give me a shout in PM and we can set up a time that works for both of us. There are some pretty nice places in Columbus to down a brew, and outside of the insane Rev. Jim on OSU campus that we all make fun of (hope he's still alive, hope I'm not speaking ill of the dead) you'll be hard pressed to find one of those intrusive evangelical types pressing their religion in your direction.
