I was sondering about this yesterday. My last girlfriend, before she met me, had signed up for one of those Chemistry/eHarmony/Match.com sites. She told me she had a few dates and they were catastrophes. They had nothing in common. And she paid money for this! I'll bet not one person out of ten thousand finds a mate on these sites. Out of curiosity I once took the test at Chemistry.com. They asked questions about the ratio of my ring and index finger (men have longer ring fingers due to testosterone in the womb). I consider such a ratio irrelevant in a relationship. They asked one question each about politics and religion -- which I have found to be exremely important in relationships. I'll bet the owners of these sites are making millions off of lonely desperate people. i'll bet they pay for a month and then let it lapse. But if people are signing up every day, well, there is a sucker born every minute. i'll bet I could do a better job as a matchmaker than these people.

It's a good exercise of common law, and existing "law" should be ignored. Catch a needle dicked low self esteem person in bed with your spouse, feel free to open fire, I say. Real people aren't afraid of relationships and don't have to destroy others lives to try and fulfill their insecure little requirements. There is no end of single men or women who want only a friends with benefits setup to choose from, the requirement to go to a married person is born solely out of a hatred for oneself and others.

On the topic of dating sites, it's a place for people begging to have smoke blown up their butts. I'm outgoing and have hundreds of friends.......yeah, that's why you can't find a date. I'm a real hottie.......just look at that graduation picture from two decades back. I'm proportionate........once the pictures are elongated in photoshop. I'm active........when I'm not popping ho-ho's in my mouth with eyes glued to a reality tv marathon. Oh, and I NEVER get angry or tell a lie.......nope, not even one.

With the games going on these days I couldn't imagine being in the dating world. The entire idea of human emotions and closeness seem almost laughably anathema to many singles that I know. Well, that's what they say anyway. What a cold, cold brave new world is being created.

I love eharmony's "29 dimensions of compatibility". WTF does that mean? There aren't that many known dimensions in the physical universe yet. An acquaintance of mine got paired up with a guy from eHarmony.com who tested out as "Knight in Shining Armor" material on every level. She waxed the lance of Sir Knight on the third date and he ended up breaking things off after she told him she was pregnant and was never seen again. I learned later that she had "tragically miscarried" the child.
It's very hard for people to find a relationship with another when they don't even know thy self. And, if they did know thy self, then they wouldn't have any problem with spending some time alone until the right person comes along rather than having to have another person around to "complete" them. Sigh.

That "you complete me" bullshit is the vilest lie ever foisted on the human psyche. If you're not whole when you meet someone, there's still gonna be a fractional human being there somewhere. The average couple I meet, mathematically, is about 0.8, total.
Exactly my sentiment. I cannot even imagine firing up the dating game today.
I understand why you feel so strongly, but as it involved ending alife one should at least make sure that the spouse - male or female - didn't initiate the liason, or wasn't equally at fault for the situation. I mean, if it turns out to be the suuation, all yo do in the end is amke the news media happy for giving them a tragic human interest story with a realironic twist.
The soul-mate stuff is the one that really, really gets me.
It stands to reason. "Self Esteem" has been taught to many younger folks (< 35) as being something granted by others for "just trying", not earned through your own action and successful work. It's not surprising then that folks now look to others to provide things like "completeness", since they do not know how to even begin supplying it to themselves.

I've always cringed when I've heard women and pseudo-men say that word. Where does it come from anyway? Who originated it? Oprah? I seem to recall hearing it in the early-mid 1990's, but not really before that.

It's hard to cut slack to somebody who walks through a home with family pictures on the walls, following a woman with a large ring on her finger up to the bedroom, seeing the open closet with a man's clothes in it, and then goes through with it anyway. Sorry, in those kinds of cases (which are the only ones I'm talking about, not one where the spouse is intentionally hiding her/his married status, in which case the unsuspecting partner is innocent of malice), then a shotgun shell delivered to the head is appropriate and just.

Craig's list is a choice that works better in some areas then in others. But in using any dating service, common sense and getting to know someone and finding out what ou are getting into is always allot smrter then to give the hormones the driver's sat in starting out with someone.
This is why, just like the Super Bowl, you play the game on a neutral field. Hotel room and/or equidistant location. That's astoundingly naive of you to think it plays out that way. Yeah, if a person does it the way you described in your first paragraph, they should be shot, not for shtupping someone else's spouse, but as a Darwinian imperative to remove stupid from the gene pool.

We're portrayed as rather dim animals but most of us are smart enough to pick the right sappy answer out of a field of generic questions, to wit: "If a woman you're attracted to or dating walks in to your apartment crying, do you: A) Ignore it and watch ESPN B) Get up, take her in your arms and ask her what is wrong C) Fart loudly and remind her that Thursdays are "steak and blowjobs" night D) Make a PMS remark or ask if she's "riding the cotton pony" this week. I took the test long ago. It's like 30 pages of foofy questions to gauge your sincerity. Once you can fake that, you're in.
Funny, must think somewhat alike, because I actually looked up the origin of that one, I guess I enjoy etymology or something. It was a term in the early part of this century to describe a "lacivious affair". It was not a flattering statement. Somewhere along the line when teh wimmins became 'labiated' and it was a heroic thing to be a 'single mom, blah, blah, blah..' it became popularized and turned on its head.

The aforementioned eHarmony girl used to say that Jack (Daniels) put her on her back and Jose (Cuervo) put her on her knees. Assuming the best about her 'virtue', I presumed that meant passed out in the first instance and puking in the second. She said "yeah, that's about 75 percent right..."
lol....eharmony girl sounds like a "real catch" and I just can't fathom why she's having a hard time finding a meaningful relationship. Perhaps water found it's own level on the sight when she hooked up with that "real catch" of a guy. Do you think she answered all the drinking questions honestly? It's a real turn on to hold hair back while vomit spews.

my opinion is that most (normal) men won't move on a woman until he gets a signal that she's interested. it's my contention that most of the time it's the woman who is the initiator. what do you think?
Unless, of course, the men are married.....then they initiate ad nauseum, coming back like a dog to vomit for more rejection, always thinking that this one last hail mary pass will win the game.

I think I must respectfully disagree. I have met two or three women, unfortunately already married, with whom there was an indefinable difference I just felt immediately comfortable and it was reciprocated. Like two halves that fit together. No, I think the concept valid but too often desperation and lust are accepted as a substitute for the real thing. I have noticed it as well in some older couples and when one dies the other, unless they're tough and independent as well, usually does not live another full year.

I always feel this about my pets OI....does that make them all my soul mates? : ) I think the concept is overused, abused and over applied. Although, I too have known older couples who by actions and deeds demonstrated the concept better than any I've ever heard speak of it. I was a hospice volunteer for a woman with Alzheimer's. Really more of a helper and friend to her husband who insisted on lovingly caring for her at home. When I began, the two had been married for 62 years and I was fortunate enough to be of small assistance for the following two years. Of course, her condition worsened. But, each day he cared for her with such love and patience. Although she wasn't physically responsive, you could actually see her spirit respond to her devoted husband. They had three adult children, who eventually insisted that she be put in a home against his adament wishes, in fact he went after his daughter with a knife when she pushed this upon him. And this sweet, sweet man, had nary a mean bone in his body. He just had no way to defend against their insistance on separating he and his wife. This, sadly, broke all the child/parent bonds. S She died within two weeksof separation from her devoted husband, despite having been deemed quite healthy just two weeks prior with never even one bed sore in all the time her cared for her. One month later, he followed her and he had very few health problems to speak of, other than the fact that he didn't want to live without his sweetheart.
