One area of law that i've always been interested in is consumer protection. Not being an anarchist, i do believe that some laws governing society are appropriate & necessary. The most common place i see grift & theft is the retail outlet. The dept. of weights & measures governs accuracy in pricing. if a store lists a price at $1.39, then they damn well BETTER not ring it up at $1.49 at checkout. 'ah, why make a scene about a dime, just CROWCH DOWN AND PAY IT AND SHUT UP.' No, F you. if i tried to steal an item without paying for it i'd be arrested. these corporate structures better obey the pricing laws & stop trying to purposely rip people off. And don't give me your hag-like miserable attitude when i demand the correct price be charged, either.because i know your corporate employer teaches you to behave otherwise. & While we're at it, why don't you try saying hello, and thank you when the transaction is complete, instead of sneering like a creepy dead-eyed ZOMBIE!! why are such concepts so foreign today?

why are such concepts so foreign today?

Because cashiers have delusions of grandeur. Starting out at the bottom is just so humiliating...

I can't tell you how many times I had people come in to my store and apply for asst manager, when they didn't know thing #1 about the business, or even know how to spell, or even know how to form a coherent sentence.

my first jobs while in high school were the hardware store & service station (as opposed to gas station, we pumped fuel for the women, & checked oil, repaired tires, etc). i was raised to value the customer. its basic common sense, or so i thought. i received a free chocolate shake yesterday from a very competent & professional manager, after a 'scene' in which her corporate structure was f'd up regarding state law & posted pricing. she acknowledged the problem & thanked me for bringing it to her attention, after her underlings nearly blew it.

It is common sense. That manager is someone worth working for.

You have to know the business to be able to appreciate the customers. If you don't know the business, all you end up doing is pissing off those customers.

There is exactly nothing wrong with starting off at the bottom and working your way up. Unless you get a total dumbass of a boss that knows nothing about leadership, that is a control freak, and holds you back.

I started at the bottom twice and worked up to management twice. But it looks like most think that paying your dues is just a formality, a way to keep people down.

I was taught long ago that A quality managers/owners try to hire A+ employees, while the B and C type managers want to hire C and D employees.

It's not a tough choice on who will have the superior organization.

Take for example, the kenyan and his uber-clown posse.
