One thing that's not being played up is that there will be a really big concert on the mall later that afternoon. Some really big names. I've been hearing that between 700,000 and 900,000 are expected. This extimate was made from the hotel room reservations and the day tripper buses.
Good News! If I were a New Orleans evacuee I think I would hop on the bus.

This is great. I thought NO might have knocked this off the radar. Maybe it will have the opposite effect?
The nastiness coming out of the SS and the National Park cops around the White House went through the roof this weekend. You couldn't even walk through the park on the north side of the White House without getting assholed. I ride my bike through the gates on the White House mall every night after work. I come home that way. I used to stop and talk to the guards and ask them what was happening. They would usually tell me, or at least tell me that "some dignitary" was coming in, or give me as much info as they could in some other way. Lately they've been asking me why they see me so often. What's my purpose there, etc. They have a new bunch of cops who arn't nearly so professional as the old SS guys. I think they are newbies in for the rally and they are getting broken in this week.
There are a lot of people from NO in DC now and many are coming to the rally. Here is a family who's house is still under three feet of water: Bush isn't popular with the NO crowd right now.
More cameras, more cameras. (I'd take a breather for a couple weeks, and change my bike route if I were you CM.)

OK. I will quit putting up pictures. I just had a couple of hundred sitting aorund today because I was testing the new memory cards. On a normal day I don't have enough to tempt me.
I'll probably do that. I'm hoping the weirdness I've been seeing is just the result of the park service beefing up security for the 24th. For years the guards in this area have been extraordinarily competent. I think you've got to really be top of the line to even be considered for the assignment. You always got the feeling that you were dealing with pros when you spoke to them. Given this context, its kind of scary to see some cop covered with tattoos blowing his stack because someone is feeding a squirrel over in the park.

Alot of these guys are essentially brainwashed IMO, and on steriods, and have watched WAAAAAY too much TV sicko garbage, where the evil citizen has to get butchered by the virtuious "public servent".
Takes tons of pics, cm. Cops despise being cought on film (well, digital camera now). It sounds like they're gearing up for a police riot, circa 1968, Chicago.
Prehaps they just "know" one will happen? I have come to believe that agents provocatur are routinely deployed these events that have the potential to embarrass the gov. Would you put it past Karl Rove??
