Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill – AN EXTINCTION LEVEL EVENT We must stop BP from using the oil dispersant chemicals now! Besides the oil, what are the dangers of BP oil dispersant chemicals absorbing into the body by swimmers? The dispersant COREXIT® 9500 - the chemical BP is using - is considered toxic and could lead to unforeseen health and environmental problems. The first dispersant used, COREXIT® EC9527A, which carries warnings that repeated or excessive exposure may cause injury to red blood cells, the kidney or liver. We need to know the health risks. Submitted to the patent office: Oil dispersant chemical -- COREXIT® 9500 Patent 6261463 Issued on July 17, 2001. Estimated Expiration Date: March 4, 2019. Oil dispersant chemical COREXIT® 9500 -- The submitted sample (#12) has the following composition: Water 17.0 Dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DDBSA) 5.0 Triethanol amine 5.0 Dipropylene glycol methyl ether 20.0 Tall oil fatty acid, ethoxylated (Ethox TO9A) 5.0 Coco (nut oil) amide (Ninol 4OCO) 5.0 Ethoxylated tallow amine (Ethox TAM5) 8.0 Sod. Petroleum sulfonate (Petronate HL) 6.0 Amine Oxide surfactant (Ninate 411) 9.0 Phosphated ester, aromatic (Ethox NP110) 9.0 Tall oil (acintol FA1) 5.0 Coco amide (Ethox 2449) 5.0 Ethoxylated 2ndary alcohol (Tergitol 15-S-3) 0.5 Amine oxide (Triton RW 100) 0.5 Various combinations thereof were made and evaluated to visually see the emulsification. Sample #12 was chosen and sent for effectiveness testing. The combination of Ninate 411 and Ethox NP 110 is very effective in emulsifying petroleum solvents. The Sod. Pet. Sulfonates is a good emulsifier, tall oil ester is lipophilic, cocoamide and amine oxides are oil solubilizers, DDBSA TEA soap is good solubilizer/stabilizer.

It's crap like this which causes people to start rolling their eyes and stop listening to what is a real problem. I don't know who's worse, those trying to blow everything out of proportion or the Mad Dog's of the world who are trying to say it's not a big deal.

Believe what you will. The fact is the ocean wildlife affected by the toxins injected into the Gulf of Mexico won't recover for decades, the cost of petroleum products will go up, and you and I are going to be the ones to pay for it. DRILL BABY DRILL!

I graduated High School in New Orleans and worked on shrimp and oyster boats for two years after high school before joining the army. Louisiana alone provides 20-25% of all of the seafood in the lower 48 states and 75% of the seafood caught in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. So far more than 30% of Louisiana fishing grounds have been closed with more closing every day. I am perfectly aware of how bad it is and the long term ramifications. The Herring fishery in Prince Edward Sound has still not opened up 21 years after the Exxon Valdez spill. Unless the government outright lies and allows people to eat contaminated seafood, I expect the fish, shrimp, oyster, and crayfish grounds will be closed for decades as well. If there is even any to be found. Shrimp, crayfish and a huge number of fish and other sea life spawn in the brackish water and marsh grasses found in the Mississippi delta and along the Louisiana shore line, all of which is being covered with oil as we speak. However, none of that makes it an extinction event. The human race is not going to die off because of this. It's just not going to happen and I haven't read a single scientific papers where the claim is even made.

======================================== Not the extinction of man, but for all practical purpose the extinction of fishing resources for the next twenty years, minimum. There were already huge dead zones in the Gulf areas where the MS Rivers pours into the Gulf from oxygen deprivations due to agriculture insecticides, pesticides, fertilizers, and other industrial toxin byproducts. Now, add the Gulf oil spill and the size of that dead zone reaches epidemic proportions. I really fear for those living in the Gulf states. This is going to be one helluva Christmas.

It is not desperation. You see only foreign policy as the reason. That is not the case. The true reason is power and sadism. Obama made this oil spill worse and spread poison on top of it to harm the american population that he hates and loathes.

If we were actually following that credo, we wouldn't have rigs way the hell out in the middle of the Gulf, put there because eco-religionists put rules in place that disallow on shore or close to shore drilling. The "drill on our land" people are the last ones who should take any heat over this.
