We must stop BP from using the oil dispersant chemicals now!

Besides the oil, what are the dangers of BP oil dispersant chemicals absorbing into the body by swimmers?

The dispersant COREXIT® 9500 - the chemical BP is using - is considered toxic and could lead to unforeseen health and environmental problems. The first dispersant used, COREXIT® EC9527A, which carries warnings that repeated or excessive exposure may cause injury to red blood cells, the kidney or liver.

We need to know the health risks.

Oil dispersant chemical COREXIT® 9500 -- The submitted sample (#12) has the following composition:

Water 17.0 Dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DDBSA) 5.0 Triethanol amine 5.0 Dipropylene glycol methyl ether 20.0 Tall oil fatty acid, ethoxylated (Ethox TO9A) 5.0 Coco (nut oil) amide (Ninol 4OCO) 5.0 Ethoxylated tallow amine (Ethox TAM5) 8.0 Sod. Petroleum sulfonate (Petronate HL) 6.0 Amine Oxide surfactant (Ninate 411) 9.0 Phosphated ester, aromatic (Ethox NP110) 9.0 Tall oil (acintol FA1) 5.0 Coco amide (Ethox 2449) 5.0 Ethoxylated 2ndary alcohol (Tergitol 15-S-3) 0.5 Amine oxide (Triton RW 100) 0.5

Various combinations thereof were made and evaluated to visually see the emulsification. Sample #12 was chosen and sent for effectiveness testing. The combination of Ninate 411 and Ethox NP 110 is very effective in emulsifying petroleum solvents. The Sod. Pet. Sulfonates is a good emulsifier, tall oil ester is lipophilic, cocoamide and amine oxides are oil solubilizers, DDBSA TEA soap is good solubilizer/stabilizer.

You know Happy, when you post silly, overly dramatic bullshit about the oil spill being an extinction level event, you do a disservice to what is a very important issue.

It's crap like this which causes people to start rolling their eyes and stop listening to what is a real problem.

I don't know who's worse, those trying to blow everything out of proportion or the Mad Dog's of the world who are trying to say it's not a big deal.

The fact is the ocean wildlife affected by the toxins injected into the Gulf of Mexico won't recover for decades, the cost of petroleum products will go up, and you and I are going to be the ones to pay for it. DRILL BABY DRILL!

If we were actually following that credo, we wouldn't have rigs way the hell out in the middle of the Gulf, put there because eco-religionists put rules in place that disallow on shore or close to shore drilling.

The "drill on our land" people are the last ones who should take any heat over this.

Completely agree. Canada has enough shell oil to last both them and us many years.
