I have always used Google as my search engine but since finding out about their plan to help Verizon implement net neutrality, I no longer want anything to do with them. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good search engine? I don't like yahoo, so that's not an option. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

www.StartPage.com They do not track your searches and have even more anonymous options.

Another startpage.com vote.

As you said, you can use their proxy option for what I suppose is total privacy.

I'll cop to using google docs for business purposes however.

They are not trying to implement net neutrality, but rather the opposite.

You are right. I misspoke. Thank you for the correction

Bing.com, another Micro$oft effort, is probably evil.

A lot of webheads praise Cuil.com. It is a new engine started by a couple of ex-Google employees, supposedly trying to deliver what Google used to before it became so ad-driven and commercialized. In essence, a neutral search engine that doesn't favor commercial offerings (though they have a few ads on each page.

You should at least try out Cuil. Most techies think it's the least-evil new search engine in years. It has it's own wikipedia-style online encyclopedia, a new offering I haven't looked at yet.

Thank you TC. What I like about Firefox is that it allows me to manage my search engines. Shoot, IE may have allowed me to do that to, although if they did they didn't make it as easy as Firefox does. Anyway, I will take a look at Cuil and if I like it will add it to my browser.

Correct.

I have them all, but startpage is used for the vast majority of my searches.

I like that when you make a selection, it opens the result in a new tab.

Look at the Cuil page and you'll see they offer a search engine add-on link to quickly add Cuil to your Firefox search engine list. It doesn't get any easier than that. I just finally installed it, one-click satisfaction.

I've been using Cuil as a secondary to Google but I am finding somewhat better search results and may switch to make Cuil my default search engine.

Cuil also lets you do that; look in Cuil's preferences page.

I've added Cuir to my search engine bar. Thank you.

Since you are a computer guru, maybe you could help me out with something else. How do I remove the yahoo bar on my firefox. My son downloaded something a while back and when he did the yahoo search bar was downloaded with it. It does not show up in my "manage search engines" options and I cannot figure out how to get rid of the damned thing.

Well if you were trying to make me look like a dumb ass you did it. Actually I did it myself. I didn't even think to look there.

Thank you.

The lad failed to either check or uncheck (I forget which now) the Install Yahoo! Toolbar option when he did the download and install.

Most likely. I consider that inclusion of Yahoo Toolbar to be underhanded.

The Mozilla folk really don't need Yahoo's money that badly.

Yes, you've always got to be alert as to the additional crap that may be installed, if you're not paying close attention to the installation process.

You really do have to read/decide/choose what the boxes offer us.

You're smarter than 90% of PC users who think it is too hard to do more than click Next, Next, Next, Finish.

It's appalling what people will install this way.

Yes that is likely what happened.

Yes, the next, next, next, can soon have you loaded up with apps that you have nor clue, or need to use.
