In times of war, the government reached out into the lives of the masses, other than that, they were mostly unheard and unseen. Even State government was a mere shadow of what they are now.
Laws were few, even less enforced, for the unwashed Americans it was mostly live and let live. Roosevelt set all aside all of that and the downhill parade to oblivion was on.
It seems like the cops would have a little something better to do with their time than that. Maybe they could be out doing some investigations on actual crimes or maybe they could have gone to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts and had some donuts and coffee. Just about anything would be better than arresting peaceful people who had harmed no one.

I swear these military people are worse than useless.
