Yes, apparently a person can be shot 21 times and live to tell the tale — not that it's the sort of achievement that anyone is going to run out to emulate. Over the weekend, a Harlem man survived what some are calling a record number of bullet wounds and is now recovering at a New York City hospital. Early Sunday, a fight broke out at a party in Harlem that spilled into the street. According to the police officers who arrived at the scene, Angel Alvarez was seen fatally shooting Luis Soto. When Alvarez turned his weapon on the officers, a fierce firefight broke out. More than 50 bullets were fired, almost all of them by the police. At least 21 of those bullets pierced Alvarez's body. Luckily for Alvarez — whose criminal record includes at least eight prior arrests — none of the bullets hit his brain, heart or major arteries. His family members say that even though his arms, legs and torso were riddled with ammunition, Alvarez is "doing all right" and talking. It's believed he'll survive. A forensics expert told the New York Daily News' Simone Weichselbaum and Virginia Breen that Alvarez is probably the new holder of a somewhat dubious record. "I would say more than 20 gunshot wounds is a record," Dr. Vincent DiMaio, a forensic pathologist who specializes in gunshot wounds, told the paper. "Of course, the real issue is where you get shot. One bullet can kill you, but believe it or not, a body can survive a lot of bullet wounds." Meanwhile, some locals who witnessed the gunfight that left six people, including two cops, wounded are disputing the NYPD's version of events, saying that the officers — some of them in plainclothes — never identified themselves as law enforcement. "Never once did you hear 'Freeze,'" Shariff Spencer told the New York Times' Trymaine Lee and Colin Moynihan. "Never once did you hear 'Stop.' Never once did you hear 'NYPD.'" Through a spokesman, the NYPD has insisted that the use of force was justified, saying that Alvarez fired on the officers. It's been reported that the incident began with Alvarez and Soto arguing over a woman. Poster Comment: More than 50 bullets were fired, almost all of them by the police. On the other hand, you gotta wonder about the NYPD training that's so slipshod that out of 50 shots fewer than half hit their target and even 21 shots don't hit a vital organ.
That's gonna leave a wee bit of a 'Mark'.

That happened in Waco. YOu can't compare shooting holes in paper with shooting holes in people. I heard of a shooting in NYC, on a tiny balcony, where they emptied their weapons with no one being hit. .

Amadou Diallo was hit with 19 of 41 rounds fired at nearly point blank range by the now defunct NYPD crime suppression "jump out squad". When the caps start bustin' and the adrenalin starts pumpin there's no thought of shot placement-it becomes a race to shoot quickly before the window of opportunity closes and the suspect goes down and the shooting stops. The black "community" complained so much about hollow point/controlled expansion bullets that at the time of Diallo's shooting (1999) the cops were only permitted to carry full metal jacketed ammo. The fact that such ammo is not only less effective at ending conflicts but also tends to over penetrate is one reason that Diallo soaked up so many rounds before collapsing, and why several rounds made it into the apartments behind him, jeopardizing residents inside. The NYPD has now seen that they can't please some folks, (and there ain't no polite way to hose black people) so they've again okayed the use of hollow points, hopefully so that fewer rounds will be needed to kill blacks and such headlines like the one above can be avoided. The moral of the story is, there is no ammo that will perform well if shot placement sux. No bullet that hits the big toe is gonna flip the suspect and end the fire fight.

The MOD 64 is the stainless steel version of the standard blue steel Model 10 S&W .38 cal service revolver. Unlike the stainless MOD 67 (and blue MOD 15) with a fully adjustable rear sight, the MOD 64/10 had a fixed sight. The MOD 10 along with the COLT POLICE POSITIVE and NEW POLICE revolvers were the most issued 4 inch police service revolvers in the history of the world. I prefer the Smittys because unlike Colts it's so much easier to smooth and lighten their triggers.
I like 3-4#. I'm sure you know that 3-4#s is the range for single action pull. 12lbs is for double action only weapons.

The moral of the story is, there is no ammo that will perform well if shot placement sux.
Officers of the NYPD are issued a 9mm Service pistol that fires in DAO (Double Action Only). Currently authorized pistols for new officers to select from include the SIG P226 (DAO), Smith & Wesson 5946 (DAO), and Glock 19 (All modified to a nominal 12 pound trigger pull). Senior officers who joined prior to 1993 are still authorized to carry Smith & Wesson Model 64 .38 Special Revolvers. Source(s):
