Biofuels emit 400 percent more CO2 than regular fuels

by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) A recent report issued by the European Union has revealed that biofuels, or fuel made from living, renewable sources, is not really all that beneficial to the environment. Rather than reduce the net carbon footprint as intended, biofuels can produce four times more carbon dioxide pollution than conventional fossil fuels do.

Common biofuels like corn ethanol, which has become a popular additive in gasoline, and soy biodiesel, which is being used in commercial trucks and other diesel-fueled vehicles, are often considered to be environmentally-friendly because they are renewable. But in order to grow enough of these crops to use for both food and fuel, large swaths of land around the world are being converted into crop fields for growing biofuels.

In other words, millions of acres of lush rainforests are becoming corn and soy fields in order to provide enough of these resources for their new uses. The net carbon footprint of growing crops for fuel is far higher than what is emitted from simple fossil fuel usage.

According to the report, American soybeans have an indirect carbon footprint of 340kg of CO2 per gigajoule (GJ), while conventional diesel and gasoline create only 85kg/GJ. Similarly, the European rapeseed, a plant similar to the North American canola, indirectly produces 150kg/GJ because additional land in other nations has been converted to grow rapeseed for food in order to replace the native crops that are now being grown for fuel.

Ironically, the amount of direct and indirect resources used to grow food for fuel is quite high compared to that of conventional fossil fuels. Biofuels also do not burn as efficiently and can be rough on the engines they fuel. Ethanol-enriched gasoline can also reduce gas mileage efficiency by upwards of 25 percent, depending on the vehicle.

Growing food for fuel ends up increasing the price of food for consumers. It also puts additional strain on families, many of whom are already having difficulties making ends meet in current economic conditions.

When all is said and done, biofuels seem to be a whole lot of hype with not a lot of benefit. Environmentally, fiscally and practically, biofuels are a disaster. Fossil fuels may not be an ideal form of clean energy, but at this point in time, they make a lot more sense than biofuels.

so ethanol fuel derived from plants causes a lot more CO2 than the regular oil derived fuel. and some in the government say we must tax CO2 because it is very bad we're told. But ethanol is heavily subsidized. Most ethanol in the US is made from corn. and in deriving ethanol from corn the process consumes more fossil fuel than it replaces through the ethanol. That is, it takes more oil/coal based fuel to grow the corn (including fertilizer) and transport it to market than the ethanol from the process provides. It is an energy sink. and it is a money sink, heavily subsidized. and it causes pollution now we're told.

why is ethanol still subsidized? Why are there no voices in our national media telling us we need to eliminate such subsidies. We have lots of 'green' funding, yet nobody in the public eye attacks this spending as being excessive. We have people telling us that social security should be drastically cut. but subsidies for thinks that waste money, waste energy and cause pollution are OK.

conclusion - people sympathetic to the American cause and at the same time are sane and intelligent are simply not allowed to participate in our national discussions. If you don't like my conclusion, then why is it that CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc. have not shown the people how stupid ethanol (and evil) subsidies are. They make lots of money selling commercials for their news shows. but they don't even bother to inform us.

the politicians who vote for ethanol subsidies should all be voted out. yet it seems almost all of them vote for it. and very few sources inform us on this issue.

the facts are that we pay farmers to convert their food to fuel. and the process wastes both money and fuel. and it drives up food prices. We Americans may not be so sensitive to higher prices on corn and soy beans. but the very poor around the world who survive on less than $2/day are hurt very badly by the resulting higher prices on basic grains. There was a study done where an economist linked large price increases in these grains to the ethanol subsidies. and people starve to death every day from that. 35,000 people starve to death worldwide every day. and we pay to have food destroyed. and its not an issue.

Revelation 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Jason Lewis has been on this case for years. Admittedly, he's the only one.

I've never heard a single politician speak against ethanol subsidies. I've seen plenty from both parties support it. but it should be an 'open & shut' case. Ethanol subsidies are bad. We have evidence that the process of growing corn and turning it into ethanol uses more fuel than is produced by the ethanol. It consumes 121% of the energy it produces. It wastes fuel. and yet government tells us they subsidize this process to make it so we don't have to import so much oil. but it causes us to have to import oil because it wastes fuel. and then it wastes money also and we have a severe budget crisis.

year after year after year people tell us that if we just keep subidising ethanol, then it will become economical. Where is sanity? There seems to be very few in Washington who will just do the right thing.

ethanol subsidies are something that just doesn't make sense unless you presume that the regime that rules us is actively hostile towards us.

Pardon the crappy formatting, but these shares in an ethanol plant near our farm originally sold for 5K/share. They were then bid up to 10K/share and now are down to 1K/share.

(Thank God my brother and I didn't get caught up in the ethanol-frenzy.)

the investment craze in ethanol has occurred 100% because of government subsidies for ethanol. I have repeatedly read that our government requires the gas stations to sell gas that has ethanol mixed in. I've read that the ethanol mixure was required at 5%, then 10% and then 20% of the total. They're forcing people to use ethanol, its not used voluntarily. and at the same time they pay on a per gallon basis for every gallon of ethanol produced. they require us to buy it thus creating the market for it, then they subsidize it.

In Ukraine in the 1930's Soviet soldiers gathered up the grain produced between the time when the grain was harvested and when it was to be processed. They did their best to gather up all food and take it out of the country. Their goal was to cause starvation which they did, maybe 10 million people died from it. Our government today pays for the food to be destroyed. and they do this when we allegedly have severe budget problems.

Ethanol subsidies, just like solar subsidies, contribute to the economic destruction of our country, they contribute to the need that government borrow lots of money. there is no logical reasons for them. We've subsidized solar for over 30 years. Its still not economical and the subsidies have grown to be well over 50% of the costs. These things are subsidized for the sake of destroying us. Note how there is zero discussion in our national media about how incredibly stupid these 'green' subsidies are.

Many Americans believe that evil as great as what the communists represented cannot be in our government because this is America and it can't happen here. But we are foolish to have such pride and arrogance. Evil has come here.

accurate conclusion and you have to know that they're profiting from this. that's all that matters to the bastards.
