I now have maintenance being done on 4um's DB weekly. It's currently scheduled for 7:10 AM Eastern time, and I've got the first run set for tomorrow AM. During this time, 4um will be down and replaced with a simple page indicating that the site is undergoing maintenance. Tomorrow AM will be a test run. This regular operation should address the problem of the server crashing every few months which has happened a couple of times.

If you care to, sign up at 4um Offline. It's served by a different server and is up when 4um goes down.
It will probably take a few weeks for the approval process to become accepted. But, I shall give it a try in a few ... I am using a new nick, "Jethro Tull."

That's funny, I just signed up over there as Buckeroo. I really had my heart set on "Nigger Jim" or "pizza", but somebody already had those.
The DB repair operation didn't go as intended this AM. I've made some changes and the next try will be tomorrow (Monday) @ 7 AM Eastern. BTW, the downtime could be 30-90 mins. Something like that.
Yeah, my previous nicks didn't go all that well. farmfriend didn't want to read anything from NJ, and I couldn't remember pizza when it came time to sign in. Sigh...
This AM the DB work went somewhat different than planned. As a result, 4um was down for a long time as the DB got messed up. I'm going to leave things alone for a couple days before trying again. Thanks for your patience.
Guess I should pingaling.
...barely...able...to...squeak...out...one...more...post...severe...4um...withdrawal...symptoms...everything...going...black... Ah, suddenly I feel better.
