Well yeah, of course we would be considered "the smartest guys in the world" if the comparison is to a turtle. That's damning us with faint praise but I know you thought it was a compliment.

I think he was comparing us to that guy in the movie who was surrounded by creatures who knew less than a Turtle would about most things, that we were the smartest guys in the world I think, in his own, Turtle "mind" (such as it is) he was giving us a compliment.
