A new opinion poll says the number of Americans opposed to the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is at an all time high.

The CNN opinion poll found that 62 percent of the American people now think that the war in Afghanistan neither can be won, nor should it be fought at all, the Press TV correspondent in Washington reported on Thursday.

The poll also found that 69 percent of the Americans are now opposed to the US war in Iraq and favored the US President Barack Obama's plan to withdraw 50,000 US troops from the country.

The poll, on the other hand, shows 30 percent of Americans support the wars.

About 50-thousand American soldiers will remain in the war-torn Iraq until the end of 2011 to help train Iraqi forces. The nearly seven and a half year war has claimed the lives of nearly 4500 American troops and cost more than $900 billion.

It is estimated that the US war in Afghanistan will cost nearly $105 billion in the 2010 fiscal year. The figure is expected to rise in 2011, as costs per service member in Afghanistan are almost twice as expensive as they are in Iraq.

The United States has about 87,000 troops involved in the Afghan war and with more deployments on the way, the number is expected to reach over 100,000 by next year.

The combined costs for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have surpassed one-trillion dollars.

thank-you for excellent article. it is very important that we the americans and people all over the world see that we do not favor war.

as you know we have private contractors in Afghanistan (I think 100,000 or so) and these people fill military tasks as well as the soldiers. So our force is really about double the 87,000 listed. those private contractors are very expensive and perform tasks that in past wars the US military would perform, including combat.

unfortunately our mass media is 100% pro-war. there are no anti-war voices at all tolerated in our mass media. the puppet liberals and the puppet conservatives in our mass media (tv, radio, print) are all pro-war. and they accuse each other of being inadequately supportive of the wars.

it is telling that this article was in the Iranian news agency. No doubt they found an American source for all of this info. But this info cannot be presented in the US mass media. anybody who does it will lose their jobs.

In the early 1970's congressional researcher Brian Quigg (with others) identified that 6 corporations were making a very strong attempt to buy up media outlets and were paying large amounts of money to do it. Over a long period of time there was an effort to buy up the media. even the small town newspapers now are overwhelmingly owned by those 6 large corporations. the money paid for these properties was frequently several times any reasonable value.

our laws were changed to facilitate this concentration of ownership. both democrats and republicans participated in the process to pave the way for this to happen.

Congressional researcher brian Quigg who warned about it in the early 1970's was murdered by Phoenix Police in summer of 2003. they called up his family and told them to come pick up the body. when they came to the location to pick up his body they were handed an urn full of ashes. Not one person who knew Brian Quigg was allowed to look at the body after he was killed. he was a person who persistently did research in opposition to the people who rule our country.

we are a slave nation. we are ruled by a regime that is hostile to us and harms us and we do not have the ability to stop these things. Some of our people know this, some do not.
