Thanks J_D.

It took about 3 hrs to record six vocal tracks, two guitar, one bass and two hand clapping, with one track of electronic percussion for a total of 11 tracks.

As I mentioned before I've been recording blues for months and I took a break on a whim yesterday and recorded a song that asserts that moonshine is morally superior to "marihuana".

I doubt that the federal "revenoors" would agree with Merle on that.

I's with my buddies who were playing country downtown in Detroit at a big blues bar near Wayne State about 15 years ago. My good friend who was playing lead had started up the opening licks to Okie from Muskogee, when the singer just about went paralyzed. He started desperately waving the lead guitar and the drummer and the bass player off.

Bet you could get away with playing it today, even up that a way.

Nice rendition, by the way, 'Dawg.

And, I'm guessing that this pontificating country ballad would not have been well received in a downtown Detroit blues bar and the singer's instincts were very good. Oh, sure it's funny NOW but back then......

I was on the road with my long haired band at 19 yrs old when I played the song at a truck stop juke box, and one of the girls in the band swore we were gonna get beat up for "making fun" of it. I couldn't convince her that ever since I saw Merle on THE SHA NA NA SHOW singing, I THINK I'LL JUST STAY HERE AND DRINK I was a true fan of his.

Merle Haggard's talent (if not his politics) transcends musical barriers as was evidenced by the PBS Special featuring his music for a bunch of "beautiful, sensitive people", the type who donate to public television.

Because of its proximity to Wayne State I assume your crowds were more white college kids (Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, Canned Heat fans) instead of the stereotypical, heroin shootin', "straight razor in my shoe" blues audiences of olde.

Am I right?

Thanx sweets, I'm very pleased to see that!

I rely on christine's instincts and she said it would be ok to share with 4um folks. (Meaning, no one would rip my guts out for it. Music is my only reason to wake up each morning and fight my way through the stiffness and pain, and that's enough as long as it doesn't backfire and start causing me mental anguish)
