"The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever pretensions of politicians, pedagogues other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else."

"A system that trains us, rather than inspires us."

This young woman is absolutely correct.

What 'inspiration' do high school and college students of today have to look up to?

Yes they are, and they have to be.

Looking for inspiration in either corrupt political party is hopeless.

She says she's scared. She shouldn't be. But I bet the principal was cringing as she gave this speech, as he(?) should have been.

It's rare to see this kind of wisdom in the youth. She'll do fine. SHe should be valedictorian not because of her grades, but because she already sees thru the BS. She'll go far. But it won't be easy. I bet she can handle it though.

I once expressed an opinion on an article by Bertrand Russel that we were required to read for class. The teacher said that it was the exact opposite of what he was saying. No discussion, no debate! I was stunned because I believed my view was valid, but I had to accept her authority. I tuned out for the rest of the class.

Now that was education!
