I stumbled over these stately Stalinesque funeral hymns a few days back, at LRC I think.

Charming music, obviously had a very powerful effect on those who heard it.

It's an astonishing clip. How much more craven and despicable could any regime make its primary victims, its own citizens?

People in the West need an occasional reminder of just how dangerous totalitarianism and leader cults are.

Hard to believe that a subjugated people would be wailing over the death of some freakin' tyrant. I wouldn't have been able to go out in public if I had been there because I would have been celebrating.

I like the part where they're fighting to get close enough to kiss the TV. It's like Benny Hinn's little cult.

The griefstricken announcers, the crowds waving their clenched fists, beating on tables, wailing, bereft with grief.

You can hardly believe it isn't an awful joke of some kind. But it isn't. That's the horror of it.
