Abstract

Contrary to popular perception, the Old West was much more peaceful than American cities are today. The real culture of violence on the frontier during the latter half of the nineteenth century sprang from the U.S. government’s policies toward the Plains Indians.

Well duh.

The vast majority of todays violence is inflicted by a certain ethnic group that has an unerring tendency to destroy everything it touches. That group loves fried chicken and watermelon and will sometimes murder to get it. Do away with them and the problem basically vanishes overnight.

Read every word of it. DiLorenzo is an absolute treasure.

He is, indeed,an absolute treasure. Another author, Robert R.Dykstra, long ago told us that - at the height of cattle transactions - Dodge City was less violent by far than towns today of equal size and population. Police Chiefs and Politicians have invoked the lie about Dodge City to further their own agenda and it has worked well because too many Americans lack critical thinking and prefer that others do their thinking for them....

All good historians are essentially revisionists, however much that term is tarred as evil these days.

You can only change future policy once you understand clearly how and why we got to this point instead of the pap the State tries to forcefeed people in the schools. They are successful at it though, having actually managed to convince a vast majority that history is boring and of no practical use.

John Smith married Pocahontas

Wrong.

The noblest man will marry the lowest daughter of a base family, if only she brings in money. And a lady will share her bed with a foul rich man, preferring gold to pedigree. Money is all. Good breeds with bad and race is lost. -- Theognis

The Indians were brutal savages and deserved what they got.

“Let’s not forget that the bankers are the next-door neighbours of the politicians. Most people can see the picture: the bankers grease the politicians’ palms, the politicians bail out the bankers with public funds, the bankers pay themselves fat bonuses and loan the money back to the public with interest. It’s essentially a crime spree that benefits a social elite at the expense of many millions of victims.”

One of the most important factors is the existence of a standing army, as opposed to militias, which were used in the American West prior to the War Between the States.

There was some attempted use of the army.

Unfortunately, infantry were almost useless against Indians, were slower than the trading parties they were supposed to protect, and had the unfortunate habit of stopping at the border with Mexico.

Liberals may not believe it but there was a type of "gun control" in both Dodge City and Tombstone. It did not ban gun OWNERSHIP like the modern gun grabbers want to do but it did prohibit carrying guns in the town limits and required them to be kept only in homes and businesses for town citizens or "checked" at the horse corrals or hotels where visitors stayed, (This gun checking was done at the saloons if the visitor came to town only for a card game or a drink and was going to leave thereafter. The most famous frontear marshal Whyatt Earp compromized with the Dodge city law by setting the "town limits" at Front Street which devided the "respectable" gun controlled part of the Dodge in the north from the Drinking/Gambling/Cowboy/Red light part of it in the south. Under Earp's compromize the southern part was considered outside the "town limits" and gun carrying was allowed there. However in tombstone "respectable" and non respectable buisnesses tended to mix together and no such compromize could be made and it was actually enforcing the Tombstone GUN CONTROL law that led to the Gunfight at the OK Corral. Actually If I were living in the Dodge City or Tombstone of the time I would have Jury Nullified the Ordinence if i were picked as a Juror in a case involving it. The Constitution says Keep and BEAR arms.)
