(RTTNews) - Japanese electronic devices maker Toshiba Corp. (TOSBF.PK: News , TOSYY.PK) Monday announced the introduction of the world's first LCD TVs that offer comprehensive 3D capabilities without any need for dedicated glasses. The company offers the new glasses-less 3D REGZA GL1 series in two models, 20GL1 with a 20-inch panel and 12GL1 with a 12-inch panel. Both TVs, which are specifically designed for personal use, will be available in Japan from December-end.

According to the company, current 3D TV is based on active shutter glasses that deliver separate images to the left and right eyes. In response to the market's need for TVs that deliver the 3D experience without dedicated glasses across all content, the company has adopted an integral imaging system that reproduces smooth, natural stereoscopic pictures, without any need for dedicated glasses.

Toshiba said it introduced the REGZA series as state-of-the-art TVs that make full use of synergies between its semiconductor and image processing technologies. The new glasses-less 3D TVs employ an integral imaging system and a perpendicular lenticular sheet to display smooth, natural images.

The integral imaging systems is based on the principal of sampling and collecting from several directions the light reflected from an object, and then reproducing the light through the display to realize smooth, natural images.

The new glasses-less 3D TVs also use the company's image processing technology to create nine parallax images from the original content and create to 3D images. These lead to the precise rendering of high quality 3D images in any viewing angle within the viewing zone, the company noted.

Further, Toshiba stated that the 20GL1 model integrates a high definition LED backlit LCD panel specially designed for 3D capability without any need for glasses. The LED backlit LCD panel systematically aligns pixels and provides about four times the pixels of a standard Full HD panel, approximately 829 million pixels. The company also said that the LED backlights are free of mercury, which occurs at trace levels in cold cathode fluorescent or CCFL backlights.

The 20GL1 model integrates the Cell REGZA Engine designed for 3D capability without glasses and is based on the Cell Broadband Engine to deliver superior multimedia processing. Further, power consumption in this model is controlled by maintaining optimum image brightness.

Toshiba also stated that it is now commercializing the 12-inch and 20-inch models and will seek to lead the market in 3D TV without glasses, further increasing its market share. The company will also respond to various needs from the users for LCD TV with 3D capability. This will include larger screen models that use dedicated glasses and personal use LCD TVs without glasses.

Way to go, Japan. While US is researching and developing war toys to destroy countries, fighting wars for Israel, the Japanese are maintaining their lead in the consumer market. And Americans are pipedreaming of bringing jobs home. Go to link for page 2 of story.

Here's another example of American industry creating jobs being a joke:

Schwarzenegger Wants China to Invest in California’s High-Speed Rail Network

APSept. 14 – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger finished up a brief tour of the Yangtze River Delta Region on Monday with high hopes that China will be in the bidding for a contract to build the western U.S. state’s proposed US$40 billion high-speed railway.

“We want China, for instance, to invest in our high-speed rail, to build our high-speed rail, to be part of this bidding process we are going through,” Schwarzenegger said during a speech in Shanghai on Monday.

“Many countries will be bidding to build our high-speed rail. And we are also looking for financing from China,” Schwarzenegger added.

China was the first stop on the governor’s week-long tour of Asia aimed at selling investors and developers abroad on the U.S. state’s 432-mile planned high-speed rail network linking Los Angeles and San Francisco. Specifically, California is encouraging China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corp., East Japan Railway, and South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem Co. to bid on the rail project, in addition to firms from France and Germany. The governor is personally test-riding each country’s bullet trains during his Asian tour.

After his speech in Shanghai on Monday, Schwarzenegger traveled to nearby Tokyo Monday afternoon and has already garnered a loan offer from state-owned Japan Bank for International Cooperation to help pay for the high-speed rail system. After completing his affairs in Japan, the governor will head to South Korea this evening before heading back to the United States.

Traveling alongside some 100 Californian business delegates, Schwarzenegger is also using the opportunity to peddle his state’s technology, tourism, and wines to the East Asian market. Officials from China and California signed four memorandum of understanding on Monday to boost bilateral investment and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

“California companies will soon be working closer with Chinese companies and new frontiers in technology exchange and venture capital investment will be realized,” Schwarzenegger said. California is already China’s fourth largest trading partner.

While visiting the Shanghai 2010 World Expo on Sunday, the former Mr. Universe and Hollywood action star announced that California would place a bid to host the 2020 World Expo in the state’s technology center of Silicon Valley.

“Shanghai demonstrated that when you host the World Expo, the world comes to you and I want the world to come to California,” Schwarzenegger said.

Just announced, the Japanese have offered to loan California US $40 billion to build the high-speed rail using Japanese companies and equipment. Not sure they'll be able to get their money back.
