One percent of the people in this country own 35% to 40% of the wealth. It wasn't the free market that did this.

"If ever this vast country is brought under a single government, it will be one of the most extensive corruption, indifferent and incapable of a wholesome care over so wide a spread of surface. This will not be borne, and you will have to choose between reform and revolution. If I know the spirit of this country, the one or the other is inevitable." - Thomas Jefferson

gay-bashing is cool for Democrats as long as the people you are inaccurately accusing of homosexuality are republicans or libertarians...

it is amazing how much bigotry there is on all sides. and it really benefits nobody.

regarding what Robert Reich is talking about above - it is mind-boggling that ordinary citizens are restricted severely in contributing direct to campaigns, but that if you just give to an intermediary group, then this intermediary group can give unlimited amounts of money. and thus keep it all secret where the money comes from. Unbelievable - decades of passing laws to limit how much people contribute and all of a sudden the Supreme Court says that business interests can give an unlimited amount.

This wouldn't be a problem except that the mass media is propaganda. and so the people are incredibly ignorant, stupid and deceived.

And you would have a world where 1% of the population owns and controls EVERYTHING through government.

The problem is government, and laws that allow monsters to make money from liquidating and destroying businesses. Laws that allow monsters to make money by betting against the economy. Laws that demand irresponsible lending to people that cannot afford those loans. The list goes on and on...

No one knows for sure where this flood of money is coming from because it’s all secret.

That's simple. Drug cartels, foreign governments, the military industrial complex, agri-businesses, pharmaceutical companies, banks, oil companies.

We have the greatest government money can buy, and in Washington DC money can buy you anything. You wanna boing Roy Blunt's mom? Give him enough money and not only will he deliver her naked to your home, he'll hold her down until you are finished and high five you as he's leading her out the door.
