Together, as members of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), they demanded the military stop redeploying traumatized, brain damaged, drugged out soldiers and Marines to war. It is part of the group’s first national campaign, Operation: Recovery.

That is a tuff one, not easy to answer and there is much in the background that should be addressed first.

Young men without access to women is the basic human fault. If one does not recognize that, all else is of no value.

Add drugs, alcohol, forced separations etc and you have a volatile situation.

Further asking such young men to endure such is without conscience.

Conversely, after WW2, the military had to force men to come home from Germany and Japan. They finally set a limit of how long one could stay there.

The answer was quite simple, women.

Crime, AWOL and such was unheard of.

I recall in early 1950s, Asst. Sec Def., Anna Rosenberg (female) came to Japan and was horrified that American military men were having unlimited sex with Japanese women. She demanded those caught in whore houses be punished, they be given lectures on how to live without sex etc etc.

Well, not really, only in spurts during actual battle and hard conquest. In wars traditionally a large and thriving class of camp followers sprung up offering just oodles of comely young lasses to soldiers, most of them (the lasses) there for either crass expedient reasons, or to better their social status and/or wealth, or to simply be able to feed their own orphaned children.

I feel bad for women in the military, especially the U.S. We were supposed to be better than that, sending women into places where harm could occur. They are simply not up to it, and its not their fault, and they're harassed as a result. Shame on us for letting this happen.
