(I've inserted the article following: 05.Oktober 2010 Breaking News ! Our friend and partner Mike Nixon, Vintage V12´s made the first enginerun of the BMW 801 in Paul Allens Fw190 restauration project. This particular A-5 was recovered nearby Leningrad. Some history: it is a Fw-190A-5/U3, flown by IV./JG 54 WkNr.1501227 (factory code / Stammkennzeichen DG+HO). It was reportedly brought down by flak after a fighter bomber sortie in the area of Voibakala. The Pilot, Feldwebel Paul Ratz, was Pow by the Russian Forces. He was released in the 1950's and was repatriated to Germany where he died shortly before the aircraft was recovered in 1990. The recovered fighter was shipped to UK and sold to Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection, Seattle in 1999. It seems, that this fighter will soon be airborne and so the only airworthy original Focke Wulf 190 in the world. Here you can see the first pictures Congrats Mike for sharing the pictures ! Really a stunning project.) Although official news regarding the project has been hard to come by, EAA learned that FHC plans to fly the 190 for the public at Paine Field in time for its Luftwaffe Day during the 2011 May-September flying season next year. When complete, this will be the only airworthy original Focke-Wulf 190 in the world, according to the Meier Motors website. A brief history of the airplane: According to the FHC website, the plane was built in Bremen in April 1943, and by mid-May that year was on the Eastern Front, assigned to 4./JG 54; Jagdgeschwader (fighter wing) 54, Staffel (squadron) 4. It was lost in combat within about seven weeks, brought down by flak after a fighter-bomber sortie in the area of Voibakala near Leningrad. The pilot, Feldwebel Paul Ratz, was a prisoner of war until the 1950s, when he was released and repatriated to Germany. He died shortly before the aircraft was recovered in 1990. (See video.) The fighter was shipped to the UK and later (1999) sold to the Flying Heritage Collection, owned by Paul G. Allen (yes, THE Paul G. Allen, co-founder of Microsoft with Bill Gates) and based at Paine Field in Everett, Washington.
Poster Comment: The Meier Motors website link enbedded above has some reproduction FW-190's on video, but they use a Russian Asch radial engine under the cowling. This one will be the only one using an original BMW radial engine. I wonder if any jews will protest a "Luftwaffe Day" or Paul G. Allen or Microsoft for bringing this *Nazi harbinger of DEATH* back to life???
