Barney Frank gives $200K to his campaign

Longtime Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank has given his re-election campaign $200,000 as he faces his toughest race in years.

A campaign finance report filed Tuesday showed that Frank, the chairman of the powerful House Financial Services committee, lent himself the money Tuesday. Frank, a 15-term lawmaker from Newton, Mass., raised $316,644 last quarter and reported more than $1 million on hand with no debts.

His campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The chairman is facing one of his toughest fights in recent memory against Republican Sean Bielat, a 35-year-old Marine veteran with degrees from Georgetown, Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. Republican Sen. Scott Brown won Frank’s congressional district, which President Barack Obama carried in 2008. Bielat has zeroed in on Frank’s service atop the financial services committee, indicating that the Democrat had a hand in the financial turmoil over the last few years.

Frank had former President Bill Clinton campaign for him earlier this fall.

A longtime public servant, Frank isn’t exactly a rich man. Financial disclosures filed with the House show he has assets between $560,000 and $1.5 million. He is not required to disclose the worth of his primary residence.

Founding Fathers made a fatal mistake when they decided against term limits.

Therein they lay the seeds of the destruction of this country.

Nope.

It was the interpretation of voters' rights. Originally, this nation was founded on the principle that a voter actually had a brain to discern issues confronting us; today, it is all about poking a random chad with no literacy or care or concern.

I agree Cyni.

Where are Barney's banking buddies? It would be justice for Barney to spend all his money before getting his pink slip.....and then get a foreclosure notice.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"In the years leading up to the Constitutional Convention, the Founding Fathers were divided over the principle of “rotation in office,” as congressional term limits were then called. Washington and Thomas Jefferson favored it, while James Madison and Alexander Hamilton opposed it. Ultimately, term limits were excluded from the Constitution.[4]

Until the Civil War, there was little reason for term limits to become an issue, as few members of Congress chose to serve more than two terms. This began to change as Congress organized permanent committees, which were chaired by the members with the most seniority. With the incentive to increase their power in Congress, many members began serving for longer periods of time."

From the Constitutional Sentinel..

"The Founding Fathers wrestled with this question during the Philadelphia Convention without coming to a consensus. Those for term limits arguing that representatives should truly represent the interests of the people and that long-term service in Congress would cause them to lose touch with their constituents and become unfamiliar with the wishes and needs of the people they represented."

Prophetic........and even then there were whores willing to vote for their own gains rather than the interests of the people.

These days we have to wait for the Herse to get them out of office sometimes. It's terrible. I'm hoping we can send many out to pasture this time around-- especially Harry.
