Yes, if Boehner and Republicans Have Their Way by Mike Hall, Oct 26, 2010 Bookmark and Share 426Share If Republicans take over Congress, House Republican Minority Leader John Boehner says he will move to raise the Social Security retirement age to 70. That might not seem to be a big deal to someone who has spent his life in cushy offices with fancy perks, luxury cars, good health care and not much heavy lifting. But for millions of seniors in physically demanding jobs, it’s a big, big deal. A new TV ad from Protecting America’s Retirees, an independent project of the Alliance for Retired Americans, takes a light-hearted look at the very serious subject of forcing seniors to stay on the job until age 70. The ad will air in five closely contested House races in Arizona, Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania and in the Pennsylvania Senate race between Rep. Joe Sestak (D), who has vowed to strengthen Social Security, and Rep. Pat Toomey, who wants to raise the retirement age and privatize Social Security. The ad reaches out to seniors who may be voting for Republicans because they want change. You’re hoping things will change? Hope you’re also planning to stay on the job. Because at least one change means seniors will have to work. And work. And keep right on working. Yes—that’s right. The Republican leadership wants to raise your retirement age to 70. The ad shows, among others, a firefighter, construction worker, delivery person and lifeguard struggling on the job in their later years. Alliance Executive Director Edward F. And where would you "invest wisely" right now? All the markets and banks are rigged right now to bankrupt consumers. Outside of guns and ammo, I see no place to put money in right now for the long term, as in decades.

I believe I read that there is pending legislation to clarify the 14th to state that if your parents, or mother, is here illegally, you will be considered an illegal alien also. I don't know how, or when, the anchor baby insanity started, but we must stop it immediately.
No the is apathetic and extremely conditioned Americans roll over for the governement on a daily basis. Frenchies have some nads to stand up for what they have been promised and what they have paid into. Not here. You will be promoting people working into their 90's and making lame justifications for this while ignoring the government stealing every dime over what is paid out in the "tust fund" for wars and governement largess that the lot of us don't want or need. Any person in the US who is 40 or younger with an iota of a brain cell knows there will be no SS for them and those who don't know this are sheep. Yet, you go on and promote this BS raising the age again and again and again and you will be expecting the younger workers to support your SS when it comes time to collect. Oh, but they should work longer than you and for much less. This nation is impotent compared to the Frenchies.

Somehow people got the foolish notion that .gov was going to take care of them when their working days were over, and are belatedly awakening to reality. However, given that the government takes 15+ percent of most workers income for 45+ years, soundly managed and invested, that should yield an indefinite stipend upon which to live in one's waning years. The problem is not the workers who have paid into this "fund" all of their lives but the malfeasance of Congress; that the money was stolen, used imprudently and managed in such a fashion that would land the trustee of an equivalently managed private retirement fund in prison for fraud for the rest of their life.

I agree with O_I. and I add that the nature of our job market for many people is that they will not be allowed by the employers to work until 70. Already, people up over 55 have an extremely difficult time of finding a job. The whole thing is a bad joke.

Both parties helped steal it. They stole the money, spent it, now they complain that SS costs too much. But it costs too much in large part because they stole it and spent it and now have to borrow money from China to pay out the checks. Many of us warned about this for many years. People refused to listen. It was not some great secret no one knew about.
In recent years, gold has done well. Also stocks of the too-big-to-fails. Some of the Asian stocks are terrific performers, many still undervalued. You can follow Peter Schiff's stock picks that have performed quite well.
I advocate nothing of the sort. As for the total innocence of the young people, it is true that they didn't vote for their forbears' debt but they did benefit from it. And it is obvious they aren't much smarter in the wake of electing Obongo, no? Then you have the unionized cops and firefighters, taking pensions after twenty years and getting other jobs after "retiring" so they can get SS as well as a fat union pension. And you have people like railroaders who like to start little side businesses while they're working so they can get both railroad retirement pension and SS. I oppose and reject all of it. Bunch of greedy bastards.
Oh please, do tell how.......how will all future generations benefit from stealing all the "trust fund" monies to waste on today's balony spending? The pensions and the rest are beyond the scope of the discussion, TC. We are talking about SS and Medicare which will go broke even sooner. My point in the discussion wasn't today's generation of retirees who will actually see some of what they put into it........my point is the 40 and younger who won't see the benefit and who are expected to keep on paying until they are in their 70's anyway. Boner had no problem skimming a trillion off the excess to war in Iraq and on terror.....that doesn't help any future generations of Americans one iota, in fact they will be less free and have less liberty and have no stinking retirement from all the SS extortion they have had to pay for decades.

As if these wars have no effect on our economy, but nobody can mention it in polite company - the social brainwashing has been very effective.

That is not even mentioning the major gold scandals, fraud by banks over gold not being in their vaults, and fake gold plated tungsten bars. It should be noted that the major supplier of tungsten in the world is China. Which is probably when it publicly came out about the fake bars, that China falsely accused the U.S. of what China was guilty of.

You act as though this situation has been unknown until recently. In the later part of the Reagan years, maybe 1987, they insisted that SS was in trouble and that they needed to raise taxes to save it. You may recall that Senator Moynihan was kind of the leader. He held all these meetings and the Congress finally became a little more familiar with computers because they used spreadsheets (the old Microsoft Multiplan, not Lotus 1-2-3). So they raised the SS taxes, assuring us that SS would be safe up through 2050. Then they started just borrowing all the huge piles of money that came pouring in and spending it like general funds, "loaning" themselves the SS fund to spend however they wanted. It was the secret cookie jar that both parties would plunder. And many of the pols who stole the SS fund and spent it wildly are now safely dead or retired though some of these idiots are still in Congress. Moynihan was betrayed because his objective was to actually save SS, not loot it. So he introduced legislation to repeal the SS tax increases, saying he wasn't going to let them steal it and spend it. He failed. And this has been the pattern since. Even Ross Perot, with his bar charts and big ears and wailing over some giant sucking sound, made it pretty clear that this day would come. 2050, 2030, 2017, the date of bankruptcy has steadily advanced. It's both parties but the Dims have been worse. And now they spent all the money and have to pay off the IOUs that they wrote to the SS trust fund. That's all it is, just an accounting journal of IOUs at a dusty obscure SS office in rural Virginia. I've seen video of the ledger they keep. It's like evidence in the shabbiest theft in human history. Yeah, these are our leaders. Makes you feel real good about voting.
That is what really makes me mad! If the filthy thieves in government would not put the money collected for Social Security in the General Fund and spend it on all kind of others things that it was not meant for our seniors would be living high on the hog! But instead the corrupt politicians took the money and spent it or gave it away for other things rather than holding it for the seniors or investing it specifically for that purpose.

That is only true if you have a double-standard and you think it's fine for Dems to be totally irresponsible and that it is somehow the job of Republicans to be the tax collector for the welfare state and the loony liberal ideas of hucksters like Obongo that manage to get elected. Sorry, we aren't interested in any comebacks for Bob Dole and his ilk who thought that it was their job to do cleanup for the liberal establishment. The Dems pushed for the bubble policies and rammed them through in the early Nineties through the housing commission. Even after the 9/11 recession (yes, we had one but they didn't allow it develop by printing money wildly, the first recession in world history where building construction didn't even dip during the recession). Then by 2004, it was clear to anyone that Fannie/Freddie and the construction boom was already in a huge bubble, fueled by the Fed. Bush and McStain tried to rein it in and was blocked by the Dems, Frank in the House but more effectively by Dodd in the Senate. Dodd is the one person most responsible for it though there were plenty of others including a small number of Republicans. Then once the Dims took the House in 2006, the party really roared on until the bubble burst in 2008. Now you want to pretend it was all such a surprise, some dirty Republican trick. It's no wonder the voters are just waiting to beat the brains out of you Dems on Tuesday. Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

Well, at least it wouldn't be broke and they'd be getting a few COLA increases. But Congress took COLA. And look at Obongo's trip this week to India. He's taking the entire WH staff with him including his own cooks on both Air Force One jets. He's taking his big Cadillac armored limo with 4.5" armor. He's taking three of the big Navy helicopters (disassembled and reassembled). He's taking a few dozen more armored SUV's. They are repositioning at least one of our major spy satellites to keep an eye on India while he is there. And they are flying all these helicopters and planes over there on 40 Air Force jets in addition to the two WH jets. And besides that, they will have U.S. Navy ships off the coast. You almost wonder if it's a setup for a false-flag, like a fake assassination attempt on Obama to improve his ratings with the public. You recall how much the public softened toward Reagan after Hinkley shot him. Well, a close call would at least help a little bit. Anyway, it's insanely extravagant and bound to drive his approval even lower so you have to wonder if he has a political motive or maybe has some slimy deal in the works that he wants to sell to India like trade concessions or weapons sales or whatnot. That might at least explain why he would spend such an insane amount. I do hope he doesn't get too worn out from all the work with TOTUS addressing the Indian parliament. Maybe he can finally get a little time for golf.

This will drive his approval down another 10% or so even with Dems. The only way it makes sense is if he gets a big trade deal or defense contract out of them. This is so huge a trip, it is about something, not just a state visit.
They are hoping people will die before they ever get any social security it appears. I am against social security, but for people who have paid into it most of their life, they should expect it to be there for them in retirement and not at an ever increasing age, but the one specified when they started paying into it.

That adjustment should only apply to those that start paying into social security after the possible new law goes into effect. It should not be applied to those before it in any way.
