WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican Sen.-elect Rand Paul says GOP lawmakers must be open to cutting military spending as Congress tries to reduce government spending.

The tea party favorite from Kentucky says compromise with Democrats over where to cut spending must include the military as well as social programs. Paul says all government spending must be "on the table."

Paul tells ABC's "This Week" that he supports a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget.

both parties favor very heavy spending on the military & intelligence & police state programs. Rand Paul is delusional in this statement. Democrats had full control for 2 year with them owning 60% approximately of both House & Senate plus White House. they could do whatever they wanted. They wanted to fund and expand the ongoing wars is what they wanted. I remind you that 90% of democrats voted for supplemental war funding. paul is positively delusional if he doesn't know that. Nobody cut the military budget when democrats were in charge. What is Paul thinking?

I'll tell you what he was thinking.

Put military cuts to a House & Senate vote, and then let the voters see how their Reps & Senators respond. If they vote for cuts, and you're a voter, support that person. If they vote against cutting the military, and you're a voter, help fire that person the next go around.

Yes, you are right. I was being sour about how the democrats don't really favor cuts in military spending. Paul says the republicans should not vote for cuts in social spending unless the democrats vote for cuts in military spending. Problem is - neither democrats or republicans favor cuts in military spending.
