WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican Sen.-elect Rand Paul says GOP lawmakers must be open to cutting military spending as Congress tries to reduce government spending.

The tea party favorite from Kentucky says compromise with Democrats over where to cut spending must include the military as well as social programs. Paul says all government spending must be "on the table."

Now that all the hoopla is over, and now that the shellacking the dems got becomes yesterday's news, we see that the more things change, the more they stay the same. It's back to business as usual.

I wish Rand Paul all the luck in the world, but if he is allowed to snip off a few corners from appropriations to the military machine here and there, he'll be very lucky. I cannot say that I am at all optimistic that there are forces inside this country that can reverse or divert the flow of resources to the imperial juggernaut. It must be apparent at this point that any real change in direction in this country will come in reaction to forces that are beyond our control.

ISRAEL PLANS TO TAKE THEIR NEW CONGRESS TO WAR

November 6, 2010 DID ANYONE REALLY EXPECT ISRAEL WOULD LOSE ?

ISRAEL PLANS TO TAKE THEIR NEW CONGRESS TO WARThe Republican party’s gain of 60 plus House Seats (10 seats, all held by Democrats, are still undecided at press time) and six Senate seats, is the largest Congressional increase for either party since 1948 when the Democrats gained 75 seats in the lower chamber and Harry Truman won the White House. Prior to this week, it was in 1938 that American voters, tiring of the great depression and some of Roosevelt’s expensive new deal initiatives plus unease over FDR’s “Supreme Court packing scheme’ as more than Republicans labeled it, allowed the Grand Old Party to pick up an all time record 80 seats in that year’s midterm elections.

Next January’s 112th Congress is already receiving rave advance reviews. Some coming from the more than half a million settlers in more than 100 illegal colonies in occupied Palestine who are pleased to see President Obama emasculated and the sentiments expressed in his June 2008 Cairo speech long forgotten. Many are hoping he will be replaced by likes of Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, or a Mike Huckabee in 2012.

....

No sooner had the election results been declared than key winners received what for decades has been a post election ritual, bestowed on new Members of Congress. That would be the delivery of US taxpayer subsidized invitations for all expense paid junkets to Israel. Of this year’s batch, Florida’s new Senator, Marco Rubio, who considers himself a Tea Party leader and who has been called “America’s great Right hope’ will lead the flock and arrive in Israel on Sunday 11/7/10. As Rubio and other members of Congress board planes to fly to Israel they may actually near-miss Israeli officials, including PM Netanyahu, who will be coming the opposite direction for a five day US visit to meet with his personal choice to replace Obama for US President in 2012, Hilary Clinton. Netanyahu will also talk Congressional strategy with key Israeli lobby agents. Those listed on the various passenger manifests between the US and Israel will share the common objective of making sure Israel’s interests are preserved and “remain eternally paramount” to borrow a phrase from VP Joe Biden. They will also try to assure and that the 112th Congress brooks no Obama administration unpleasantness such as increased demands for a broader freeze on Jewish settlements....

I'll take whatever cuts to the military we can get, and as far as war, as we discussed yesterday, it's in our DNA as Americans. We are a nation who has never in it's history been at peace for any extended period of time. The only way I see this ending is the way all Empires end; an over reach followed by a crushing military defeat. I can't say we don't deserve it.

I think that Lacumo and Jethro love their country and like all of us want to see that someone in that rathole in DC is listening to reason and not to slavish self interest. Men like the Pauls have great careers outside of politics and have no need for office. I believe that they are sincere men. They are quite simply outnumbered. Who here can say that they sincerely hope for much from the 112th Congress in terms of the general welfare?

We can only watch this drama unfold in slow motion to see how the system reacts to the shocks that are sure to come, and to come soon and with increasing rapidity. I only hope that the way that the American Goliath chooses to respond is not massively bellicose. I say "only hope" because my instincts tell me that that's the way things are going.

Jethro...

From experience...When the Korean war ended the military budget was slashed..."to the bone". Thousands of surplus "lifers" were thrown out in the street and guess what? We had the same number of aircraft, went on flying as usual, wasting tax dollars.

The military budget was CUT across the board, well that aint good enough. If you go back to Clinton, he balanced one or two budgets by cutting the military but he did it with a meat clever not a pencil. He gave the military a list of certain entire units that WILL BE eliminated in total, no paper shuffling.

In fact during his time he cut TEN ACTIVE DUTY DIVISIONS from the Army.

Cutting the budget for the military as a WHOLE is meaningless.

Its a shell game Jethro, the military within the military.

Caveat...The Pauls need to realize who and what they are fighting. To be effective you must LEAD, you cannot talk this government into reform, that is not possible.

Rand needs to stand on the Senate floor and demand the war be stopped, name names, call a roll call of the dead kids we have brought home.

Remember Clinton with one or two balanced budgets???

This is how it was done, not by cutting the military budget for public consumption but cutting the money and telling the military these units will be gone...

"In 1988 there were 18 Army Divisions (20,000 men each); in 1998 there were 10 divisions. In 1988 there were 10 Army Reserve Divisions; in 1998 there were eight. In 1988 there were 1,868 Air Force fighter and attack aircraft; in 1998 there were 936. In 1988 there were 706 Navy fighter and attack aircraft; in 1998 there were 456. In 1988 there were 438 Navy cruisers, destroyers and attack submarines; in 1998 there were 271."

Ten entire Army units of grunts were eliminated, gone, history.

By the way, the Army wants those ten divisions back, do you consider we will have enough volunteers to do that???

... In discussing the gold standard he said: 'Rothschild and his American agents graciously condescended to come to the help of the United States treasury in maintaining the gold standard which has wrought the ruin, and only charges a small commission of $10,000,000 or so on one little transaction. Great God, that this proud government, the richest, most powerful on the globe, should have been brought to so low a pass that a London Jew should have been appointed its receiver to have charge of the treasury.....

Here again we find the hand of a Rothschild working to the detriment of this formerly free nation.

This is why I object to gratuitous Jew bashing, because always, always, always there is an individual with a name who is responsible for the depredations upon our fair Republic.

While many Jews might to be parochial and insular within their own group, and even treat others shabbily, it is really only a small group, not all of whom are Jews, from which issues the world scale financial crimes that are the ruin of our nation.

Even Israel, which I often excoriate for its fiendish treatment of its neighbors and subjects, is a Rothschild puppet state. The Zionist movement which gave birth to the modern state was a minor force of little weight until the Rothschilds took it over and built it up with their money for their own ends. And it is not the ends of any Jewish people but the ends of the Rothschild Dynasty. Any modern Jew so gullible and stupid as to think otherwise lives under a delusion as great as any suffered by Christian Zionists and their perverted theology of the end of the world as we know it, but only by support of the secular, even luciferian, state of Israel.

No, and that is why our would-be masters are building up the mercenary forces such as Blackwater/Xe et. al., ....

While no fan of Clinton the build down in the military was a good thing. I side with Smedley Butler who commented that we need only those forces necessary to repel invasion (which our current government will not do allowing, as they do, hordes of illegals to take up residence for ends other than the benefit of the nation).

The top Brass always wants more because the size of the forces at their command enhances their prestige and authority - which is why the military should NEVER have the say so to determine how many troops and forces are needed.

The founders warned us repeatedly about the dangers of a standing army, especially when coupled with an imperial executive branch.

The Constitution only calls for maintaining our navy, naively assuming that we would always be a country of armed men, ready to defend our homeland at a moment's notice.

Cutting the budget for the military as a WHOLE is meaningless.

Ok, so you seem to be saying that current spending is just fine and are unwilling to accept cuts to the military.

Wake up, take what you can get for now. Any start is a good start. Any cuts are good cuts.

Bellyaching about how an across-the-board cut is "meaningless" is a lie and you know it. Cuts are cuts. Right now, in this time, take what you can get and demand more once the first batch of cuts goes in.

Otherwise, we get nothing. Is that really what we want? Nothing? I think not.

As a historical note, Clinton NEVER had a balanced budget and he NEVER ran a surplus. The Social Security surplus was raided like usual to make it APPEAR as if there was a balanced budget. The National Debt went up EACH and EVERY year of Clinton's Presidency. Look it up.

Somewhere, Jimmy Carter is laughing and saying, "Finally! I won't be the worst President ever!"

Didnt say that at all.

Cutting the military say ten per cent, sounds good BUT THAT ALLOWS THEM TO DECIDE WHAT TO CUT.

Telling them up front WHAT will be cut is a great deal different. Been there, did that, saw how the military kept right on growing, even tho their budget was cut.

For instance if Congress told the Army to cut 5000 people tomorrow, they could do that without blinking an eye, and the war would go on. It has to be spelled out for them.

Re Clintons balanced budget, take that up with they people that were there.

"Q:

During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?

A:

Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not.

This chart, based on historical figures from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, shows the total deficit or surplus for each fiscal year from 1990 through 2006. Keep in mind that fiscal years begin Oct. 1, so the first year that can be counted as a Clinton year is fiscal 1994. The appropriations bills for fiscal years 1990 through 1993 were signed by Bill Clinton's predecessor, George H.W. Bush. Fiscal 2002 is the first for which President George W. Bush signed the appropriations bills, and the first to show the effect of his tax cuts

I wont post the chart by CBO, as it is redundant.

I recall one young pilot a few years ago, flying the same B-52 his Father flew. That aint good.

The B-52 was obsolete 25 years ago. However, the fact that they have kept the same fleet does say something about the need for bombers - an antique way of conducting war. Not that I think there is any "good" war. There are necessary ones in defense, and then the rest - which are wholly unnecessary. Most fall into the latter category.

01/03/1994: 4,512,315,337,989.71
01/03/1995: 4,798,116,945,333.39
01/02/1996: 4,988,495,380,113.30
01/02/1997: 5,317,016,511,039.02
01/05/1998: 5,481,924,290,553.50
01/04/1999: 5,606,630,290,821.39
01/03/2000: 5,751,743,092,605.50

Do you see the same pattern that I do?

Somewhere, Jimmy Carter is laughing and saying, "Finally! I won't be the worst President ever!"

Two girls Vassar.

All of this we NEVER heard of in school, college nor MSM.

History is very interesting in that we find out what we were not told.

Cutting the military say ten per cent, sounds good BUT THAT ALLOWS THEM TO DECIDE WHAT TO CUT.

So what?

You have to start somewhere. This is a long-range game that is being played. It is done one play at a time. First you do an across-the-board cut. THEN you start targeting cuts after that.

Any cuts are good cuts.

I will go with the CBO as that is their job.

To my knowledge I have never heard anyone else dispute CBO.
