JACKSON, Miss. -- Longtime Democratic Congressman Gene Taylor has lost the south Mississippi House seat he held for 21 years.
On Tuesday, with all precincts reporting in the 4th District, Republican Steven Palazzo had 52 percent of the vote to Taylor's 47 percent.
Palazzo, a state lawmaker from Biloxi, portrayed Taylor as beholden to national Democratic leaders. Taylor, who is from Bay St. Louis, has been in Congress since 1989.
Elsewhere, Republican Alan Nunnelee unseated Democratic Rep. Travis Childers in the northern 1st District. Childers had held the seat since May 2008.
