Wayne Madsen: China Fired Missile Seen In Southern California

Wayne Madsen Report
November 10, 2010

Pentagon and its embedded media covering up Chinese show of force off LA

China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMR’s intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.

The reported Chinese missile test off Los Angeles came as a double blow to Obama. The day after the missile firing, China’s leading credit rating agency, Dagong Global Credit Rating, downgraded sovereign debt rating of the United States to A-plus from AA. The missile demonstration coupled with the downgrading of the United States financial grade represents a military and financial show of force by Beijing to Washington.

The Pentagon spin machine, backed by the media reporters who regularly cover the Defense Department, as well as officials of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and the U.S. Northern Command, is now spinning various conspiracy theories, including describing the missile plume videotaped by KCBS news helicopter cameraman Gil Leyvas at around 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, during the height of evening rush hour, as the condensation trail from a jet aircraft. Other Pentagon-inspired cover stories are that the missile was actually an amateur rocket or an optical illusion.

Experts agree that this was a ballistic missile being fired off of Los Angeles. Pentagon insists it was a jet aircraft or model rocket.

There are no records of a plane in the area having taken off from Los Angeles International Airport or from other airports in the region. The Navy and Air Force have said that they were not conducting any missile tests from submarines, ships, or Vandenberg Air Force Base. The Navy has also ruled out an accidental firing from one of its own submarines.

Missile experts, including those from Jane’s in London, say the plume was definitely from a missile, possibly launched from a submarine. WMR has learned that the missile was likely a JL-2 ICBM, which has a range of 7,000 miles, and was fired in a northwesterly direction over the Pacific and away from U.S. territory from a Jin class submarine. The Jin class can carry up to twelve such missiles.

Navy sources have revealed that the missile may have impacted on Chinese territory and that the National Security Agency (NSA) likely posseses intercepts of Chinese telemtry signals during the missile firing and subsequent testing operations.

Japanese and other Asian intelligence agencies believe that a Chinese Jin-class SSBN submarine conducted missile “show of force” in skies west of Los Angeles.

Asian intelligence sources believe the submarine transited from its base on Hainan through South Pacific waters, where U.S. anti-submarine warfare detection capabilities are not as effective as they are in the northern and mid-Pacific, and then transited north to waters off of Los Angeles. The Pentagon, which has spent billions on ballistic missile defense systems, a pet project of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, is clearly embarrassed over the Chinese show of strength.

Likely route of Jin-class submarine from Hainan base.

The White House also wants to donwplay the missile story before Presidnet Obama meets with his Chinese counterpart in Seoul and Tokyo. According to Japanese intelligence sources, Beijing has been angry over United States and allied naval exercises in the South China and Yellow Seas, in what China considers its sphere of influence, and the missile firing within the view of people in Southern California was a demonstration that China’s navy can also play in waters off the American coast.

For the U.S. Navy, the Chinese show of force is a huge embarassment, especially for the Navy’s Pacific Command in Pearl Harbor, where Japan’s December 7, 1941 attack on the fleet at Pearl Harbor remains a sore subject.

Fresh food that lasts from eFoods Direct (Ad)

In 2002, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice reportedly scolded visiting Chinese General Xiong Guankai, the deputy chief of staff for intelligence of the People’s Liberation Army, for remarks he allegedly made in 1995 that China would use nuclear weapons on Los Angeles. Xiong denied he made any such comments but the “spin” on the story helped convince Congress to sink billions of additional dollars into ballistic missile defense, sometimes referred to at “Star Wars II.”

Wayne Madsen is well known as an investigative reporter. Less well known is the fact that he trained at the Nay's Surface Warfare School. Madsen was assigned to anti-submarine acoustic sensing operationsa and was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation as part of the team that detected the first acoustic signature of a Soviet Alfa class submarine.

Madsen says that our highly advertised anti-submarine capability has been hollowed out in recent years and that we currently have only five ASW vessels to cover all the world's oceans. He cites the Navy's admission of the failure to detect a Chinese submarine that surfaced within weapons range of the USS Kitty Hawk task force several years ago.

The Navy NEVER lies.

What battleship "incident" was it they got caught trying to hang a grunt for their own negligence???????

I believe it was the Missouri when they had an explosion in the forward gun room on the 16 inch mount. Of course it killed the entire gun crew.

Well, the FAA has large range radar in Los Angeles,CA (LAX), Orange County, Ontario besides many other southern California , too. Nothing reported other than usual planned sky traffic. Nice try, pal... but no cigar.

As a general rule I believe NO ONE on the public payroll. Robert Ellsworth is retired and Doug Richardson works for a private publication. When you compare their spontaneous reaction to the video evidence it contrast sharply with the frantic couple of days it took for the Pentagon to get its story straight.

Robert Ellsworth, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO and one time Deputy Secretary of Defense said, "It's spectacular… It takes people's breath away. It's a big missile." Ellsworth told the London Times, "It’s a solid propellant missile."

Doug Richardson, is the editor of Jane’s Missiles and Rockets, the British-published defense industry authority. Jane’s military publications date back to 1898, and are acknowledged for its expertise in the field. Richardson examined the video for the Times of London and said he was left with little doubt that what some insist was a contrail from a jet was in fact a missile. Richardson said it could have been a ballistic missile launched from a submarine.

"It’s a solid propellant missile," he told the Times. "You can tell from the efflux [smoke]."

Before moving too fast, Cynicom AND since you understand aircraft so well because your .... hmmmm.... FAA background, lets take a peek at the original photographer's (some helicopter pilot for a MSM trafficwatch) perspective

I watched the missile for ten minutes.

Isn't that statement ludicrus? A missile in the sky for ten minutes? Missiles travel at super sonic speeds perhaps as fast as Mach5. Go figure.

Now, back to your question...... from the FAA:

“The FAA ran radar replays of a large area west of Los Angeles based on media reports of the location of a possible missile launch around 5pm Monday. The radar replayed did not reveal any fast moving unidentified targets in that area. The FAA also did not receive reports of any unusual sightings from pilots who were flying in the area Monday afternoon. Finally the FAA did not approve any commercial space launches around the area Monday.”

I've watched launches at Cape Canaveral and followed them for at least ten minutes before I had to pull out the binoculars. Once the vehicle becomes a microscopic dot, you can follow the flame and exhaust for quite a long time, at Mach whatever.

What you are quoting is pap, pablum and poop from the media.

The FAA has NOT said WHO it was, until then trying to use media coverage is futile.

The Oakland FIR covers ten per cent of the worlds surface, FOR POSITIVE AIRCRAFT CONTROL AT ALL TIMES, NO EXCEPTIONS.

It extends from Oakland to near Anchorage, westward to near Japan, south nearly to the Philippines, to north of Australia, the largest FIR in the aviation world, with the latest up to date equipment.

In that vein, when they announce officially WHO THE AIRCRAFT WAS, that will end the speculation. Not until.

Take a break, buck. Pour yourself a bourbon.

This happens to my Redbreast Happy Hour, if you don't mind.

Key hints this was an airliner:

1. Flight track was from Hawaii to the mainland.
2. Trail is lighter on the bottom, not near the top like a launch trail
3. The "glint" or flame is not present at the horizon but is when the sun hits the plane ...windows at the right angle. The glinting are the plane windows being hit one by one as the sun crosses them, similar to a house on the hill at sunset (The windows)
4. The upper level moisture in the atmosphere supported contrail development.
5. The upper atmosphere was cold enough to rapidly form large ice crystals to make the trail seem "Thicker" than usually.
6. The airliner on the video stopped the vapor trail at one point and looking at the upper air maps the plane was coming downward from 30,000 feet, to drier air below it thus ending the contrail development.
7. It may look like it is "rising up" but an object coming at you and higher than you would certainly look like it is rising out of the horizon, hence what satellites look like when they "rise" out of the horizon, you know ... like the space station? Optical illusions get the best of everyone.

Isn't that statement ludicrus? A missile in the sky for ten minutes? Missiles travel at super sonic speeds perhaps as fast as Mach5. Go figure.

A surface to air missile might not be in the sky for long, from it's launch to moment of impact. However, an ICBM would take about as long as an orbital launch (ie. satellite, Space Shuttle) would take, since it actually travels through sub-orbital space.

So about 10 minutes wouldn't be that unusual for that sort of "missile".

Many years ago when I was with FAA, I was sick of waste.

They use the cover of a vital service to suck up tax dollars to squander.

At one time we use to be able to rent aircraft to fly around with, having a good time, and the tax payers paid the bill. It was all above board on paper as a needed expense in controller experience. It was all BS and it was finally done away with.

Another bomb was the idea that a college educated person would make a better controller, more intelligent, dont you know. With that they could ask for more money and higher pay. Controllers at that time had to pass thru the FAA academy in OK City. The college kids bombed out at a rate of over 50 per cent. That program was tanked quick. They determined a piece of paper meant nothing.

Buck...

Use a little reasoning...

If it was an aircraft, the FAA has the ability to identify it and dispel any doubt.

The military/norad jumped the shark by saying they did not know what it was.

The seed of doubt was sown by the government, not by the chopper pilot.

Out of the gate the military/government raised the speculation, not the civilian population.

In that area, Oakland FAA authorizes all missile launches, bar none.

They also have total control of all aircraft in a positive mode, bar none.

Not true.

The FAA, which operates the nationwide radar system used for civilian air travel, said that it had not been able to determine the location, altitude or trajectory of the contrail. “Without knowing that information, we can’t pinpoint a source,” spokesman Ian Gregor said. “We can’t say where the contrail came from.”

It takes a bit of time for co-relation based on FACTS.

There you go buck, leaving out the reason they cannot say who it was.

To do that, they need to know, without doubt the exact location and time from which the video was taken.

You left out that part, not nice.

Again you are using media poop as facts, that wont wash.

Myself, I doubt the contrail answer, however if anyone can tell me WHAT AND WHO it was, I could accept easily.

The rarity of these kinds of events precludes your considerations for new budgeting approval. Here is what shall happen: FAA shall wrap it up sometime soon showing an relatively slow moving aircraft with a contrail near dusk over the Pacific Ocean.

Most officials will laff it off, too. As they already pointed out there was no threat and no planned or errant launches otherwise. They will laff at the American publick for believing in BS.

For separation, all aircraft must maintain a specified mach number, no deviation is allowed without permission, engine problems etc.

We all fly the required speed without exceptions, that is the only way separation can be maintained. With coastal radar, there is no deviation as the speed is known.

Nice try Cyni. I guess you don't know about IFF radar. It is a method of identifying aircraft within the US and ally nations for Identification of Friend or Foe. Without this method of signaling this encrypted signature, aircraft (UFOs, enemy missiles, Tinkerbell, etc.) are not recognized and are considered hostile.

IFF radar is an important flight recognition method to understand issues about national defense. It is employed all over Canada and the USA.

I operated my first IFF back in 1951. Wanna try again??????

That was a WW2 advancement. Modern days they use a transponder that is capable of about 7000 codes or thereabouts. Each aircraft is assigned a a code number, when the radar sweeps by him, his transponder blips, giving the controller positive ID.

We could also jam TV stations, for which we caught hell more than once, but it was fun and no one could ident us.

You will hear San Francisco working the traffic as far north as Alaska and south to near Australia.

He will call himself San Francisco, working the oceanic traffic for Oakland Center and he is sitting in Annapolis MD.

And the days of military theatre antics are all but a bit over (just budgets) with today's elimination of AWACs. We are moving to stationary blimps in the sky with CCD capabilities to zoom in on over a 30 mile radius with 3" accuracy. These same stationary sky lords are so high up they can't be detected visually so you wouldn't detect them; they use stealth capabilities (radar invisible) and use solar radiation as a power source. They can remain in a geocentric stationary grid or moved on command for over a year at a time.

Technology is changing the entire USA.... if the personnel want to know what kind of beer you are drinking they just zoom in on your coldcup while you are riding your JohnDeere mowing back lawn.

"The Tea Party represents the true green shoots of a reclaimed America, let us not block it's sunlight while it is still taking roots." -- Flintlock, circa 2010-11-06 13:51:43 ET
