Did you all know that Zacharia Sitchen passed away on October 9th?

I read no reports on his passing and was very surprised to hear this news today.

I found a brief blurp from his family:

We regret to inform you that Zecharia Sitchin passed away on the morning of October 9th. A small, private family funeral was held the next day.

The family asks that you respect its privacy during this difficult time and refrain from contacting family members directly. Instead, to offer tributes to Mr. Sitchin or to contact those handling his affairs, please email tributes@sitchin.com or send a letter to P.O. Box 577, New York, NY 10185.

He came up with some interesting things but a lot of his theories were scientific nonsense, especially the planet that is inhabited and has an advanced civilization. That planet has an orbit that takes thousands of years to come back near the earth.

I was aware of him. The one thing that stands out was the comment by another researcher who described his translations of Sumerian as "novel". Not listing Sumerian among the scripts I can read I am not in a position to offer a personal opinion.

I am fascinated with ancient history/archaeology to no end. And while I am not by any means trapped by the limitations of the lamestream paradigm I nevertheless have fallen short of accepting Mr. Sitchin's theses. I do believe though that there has been at least one, and probably two, or more, technologically advanced cultures on this planet preceding our own.

However, he was interesting. I liked the way he questioned his Hebrew teachers in Palestine in regards to the Nefilim. Great start to a long career of questioning and searching for answers. I admire that.

There is plenty of evidence for it Cyni, and much of it in plain sight if you are willing to set aside the programmed preconceptions inculcated by academic authoritarian pronouncements.

There is physical evidence at several locations, the Dead Quarter in the Saudi Arabian Desert comes to mind, which bear the signature of nuclear explosions in prehistory. As well the Indian Vedas speak of what appears to be a nuclear weapon - referred to in the Mahabharata as "the Iron Thunderbolt" which could level a city in a single blast.

As well British researcher Christopher Dunn, a retired master machinist, has done extensive measurements on Egyptian artifacts and concluded from the precision and tool marks that many of them could only have been made with power tools. The Sarcophagus in the "Kings Chamber" in the Great Pyramid is a stone box of precision work. Mr. Dunn measured it's accuracy using an aerospace grade rule. The corners are true to with thousandths of an inch - aerospace precision.

I could go on for a while, but there is plenty of evidence - much of which the lamestream spends great amounts of time ignoring.

Yes, the willingness to ask questions is the sign of an active mind. And being willing to ask questions which question the teacher the sign of a bold one. I once got ejected from a College History class by a young Professor who could not handle a student who asked awkward questions and interjected little snippets. ;-)

The true history of this planet is really not that well known. We are in agreement that there have been "outside influences", but I think as well that civilization has risen in the past only to again subside from decay and/or war.

I don't know if it is still a popular theory but when I was going through college one of the chief anthropological theories on the rise of villages and city cultures was the "Hilly Flanks" Theory. It speculated, and had some physical evidence supporting it, that settlements, and agrarian life, first rose on the hilly flanks of mountain chains, below the snow line but above the valley floor.

However, in pondering it one day it occurred to me to ask what would be the most survivable zone in the aftermath of a nuclear war? Without going through a long chain of reasoning - it would be the hilly flanks of mountain chains. Why, you might ask? For two reasons - the upper slopes are under a thinner atmospheric blanket and subject to more radiation to begin with. In the aftermath of a nuclear war fallout carried on the wind would make that zone uninhabitable. Similarly valley floors would accumulate radioactive particulates carried by runoff from the mountains and the high concentration of radioactive materials making them uninhabitable. The hilly flanks get abundant rainfall and would act as a natural cleansing system to carry the radioactive fallout away and down into the valleys. While, no doubt, there would be several generations affected by the elevated radiation levels the hilly flanks would offer the best chances of long term survival. After perhaps ten or twenty generations the radiation levels would have dropped to negligible levels thus allowing for a resurgence of civilized life. Although you might get the occasional "Cyclops" or other "Ogres" as genetic deformities.

As for your post - that is the result of an occasional burp by the software. I've had it happen maybe a half dozen times over the last few years. Generally when it happens if you use the back arrow on your Browser you can go back and recover it and post it a second time, or copy it, edit the original post and paste it in.

Ah, yes - my secret shame - annoying professors. He, he, he. Well, in my defense, I was trained by a couple of earlier professors who invited participation. One of my all time favorites was a crotchety old crank that the administration hated, but couldn't fire - tenure you know. He gave forth with the occasional expletive in making his points. He also had the novel approach of on the first day of class inviting all of the students not interested in earning an "A" to leave post haste. Needless to say I got an "A" in his class.

As for your silly socialist Prof. I do believe he was not an "A" student and I am sure my History Prof., who was slightly to the right of Attila The Hun, would have explained that to him most colorfully. ;-)

I had read the same notice of Mr. Sitchins death as you posted, seems like a couple of weeks ago. I had read his books and heard him in C2C several times.

When my dad passed away he had 2 of Sitchins books in his house. Your post reminded me.

I think his theories have as much merit as any. I study the Bible and don't think his theories negate it or even offend it.

There are mysteries all around us and I enjoy every one of them.

Me too Noone. I admire the theorists.....no matter the realm in which they opt to theorize in. I liked many of Sitchens musing on the Bible, like the Nefilim. I find the Sumerians fascinating because they were at the cradle of civilization, yet "unknown" until about 150 years ago and so much is still a mystery.

I find the Fibonacci numbers fascinating too. : )
