How do you know the airplane was traveling straight up? I say it was an optical illusion of the contrail spreading from a long distance off over the Pacific Ocean giving the appearance of "straightup". Southern California is undergoing the phenomenon of La Niña; this means changes are occurring in the atmosphere further suspending contrails into the atmosphere. When you couple both elongated and suspended commercial jet aircraft contrails with a setting Sun, you have a possible optical illusion based upon exact time of day, position of viewing point and weather conditions.
And besides, buck, neither aircraft nor ballistic missiles generally "zig-zag." They may change course, (as this missile did) and high altitude winds traveling at high speeds commonly displace contrails and missile exhaust trail from the axis of travel. Go to NOAA or the National Weather Service to find the various directions and speeds of wind overhead where you live.

Au contraire, mon ami. Commercial jet aircraft maneuver for course corrections all the time and for many reasons. Missles don't maneuver similarly.
Au contraire, mon ami. La Niña is a reoccurring phenomena about every five years ( the cycle varies for many unknown reasons BTW ) interleaved with El Niño. Within the La Niña phenomenon of the recurring cycle, the atmosphere is cooler which of course suspends the water vapor exhaust of the jet aircraft for a longer period of time.
But that doesn't account for the "zig-zag" that we see in contrails, mon chere. It was a missile. Retired big wig generals have put their reps on the line on that. The gov't is more equivocal: "It's a bird, it's a plane," etc., etc.

Yes, it does and primarily coming over the Southern California coast wherein major airports controlled by the FAA are constantly ensuring course corrections for approaching aircraft for air traffic considerations. Missiles don't "zig-zag"; in today's world, anyway.

Ok, not STRAIGHT up, but it went up at about a 45 degree angle. It passed below a cloud, then went between several clouds and shot over them. Why are you straining so hard to make this into something it isn't? Wow, so now the weather is to blame for missile launches, eh? It wasn't a static trail bucko, it was a moving object going UP.
Let's take a flip/side to your post. Can you substantiate an apparent observation by some helicopter traffic watcher's own ten minute recorded video? Ten minutes of recording in a single off-shore direction (looking WEST) with a missile at typical Mach 5-6-7? How is that? What is the apparent horizon distance at say 1,000 feet by a helicopter pilot? Say 30 miles? Or is it 1,000 miles?
I'd like to know why the entire video of the incident isn't available. Oh wait, it would become a bit TOO obvious that it was a missile if people could see the entire thing, and folks like bucky would have an even harder time trying to claim it was nothing more than high altitude swamp gas.
Oh look, here's another "jet contrail", right? Just kidding. It's an image of a shuttle launch. Man, it must be traveling SO SLOW, it CAN'T be a rocket or a missile, otherwise it'd be moving so much faster...
Don't mean to nit pick, buck, but you're becoming unintelligible. You substantiate an allegation, contention or assertion but not an observation. Some career military people have given weight to this video as evidence of a missile launch. I strongly tend to agree with their observations. But the entire source of the "mystery missile" was based upon some nit-wit in the Los Angeles area apparent ten minute footage looking over the Pacific Ocean near sunset. If the apparent observation is correct about the "mystery missile", it must be one of the slowest missiles ever launched. Ask your guests about my questions for fun.
That footage is a completely different viewing angle. Nice try, but no cigar.
Why are you claiming that it's a 10 minute video? The most I've seen is about 10 seconds of video. Do you have the other 590 seconds of what you claim is available?

It's interesting in that people who know missiles are commenting how the plume in the video footage looks clearly like the plume of a solid fuel booster. Last I checked airliners don't use solid fuel boosters. Are you aware of any airlines that get a little "extra pizazz" by using a solid fuel booster to give the passengers a REAL ride? Me neither. Funny thing though, the similarities between the plume of a solid fuel shuttle booster and the one in the video. I guess it must just be another one of those amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing coincidences that buckie invariably rattles on about.
