ATLANTA — The nation's airport security chief urged travelers not to boycott full-body scans on Wednesday — one of the busiest flying days of the year — as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches with some Americans in a foul and rebellious mood. Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole said Monday that such delaying actions would only "tie up people who want to go home and see their loved ones." "We all wish we lived in a world where security procedures at airports weren't necessary," he said, "but that just isn't the case." He noted the alleged attempt by a Nigerian with explosives in his underwear to bring down a plane over Detroit last Christmas. There was little if any indication of a revolt Monday as passenger screening appeared to go smoothly at many major U.S. airports, with very few people declining the X-ray scan that can peer through their clothes. Those who refuse are subject to a pat-down search that includes the crotch and chest. Many travelers said that the scans and the pat-down were not much of an inconvenience, and that the stepped-up measures made them feel safer and were, in any case, unavoidable. "Whatever keeps the country safe, I just don't have a problem with," Leah Martin, 50, of Houston, said as she waited to go through security at the Atlanta airport. At Chicago's O'Hare Airport, Gehno Sanchez, a 38-year-old from San Francisco who works in marketing, said he doesn't mind the full-body scans. "I mean, they may make you feel like a criminal for a minute, but I'd rather do that than someone touching me," he said.

Always opt-out. Then do your best to opt out of flying. If the airlines see revenues go into the tank, they will add their voices to the chorus.

It almost makes John Pistole look human when LOVED ONES come into the equation. I wonder how he is going to work in starving children in India, puppy dogs, and photos of him kissing babies. America will eat it up!

Many Americans are traveling based upon family, friends and business matters. Most of their flight fares were contingent upon early bookings from months ago. They aren't going to OPT-OUT. They are going to enjoy the holidays. And, the commercial airlines NEVER see revenues fall. They make it up with US government troop movements.
Fight back, eat like two 12 ounce cans of corn an hour before "go time".

Let me give you an example to show you the difference between a "regular" (non refundable cattle-car ticket and the same wonderful cattle car experience with a refundable ticket). This is just a "for instance" kind of thing and the price is the price quoted tonight on US Airways. Atlanta to Los Angeles, depart on November 30, return December 5 coach, non refundable---$169 coach, "flexible"-------$571

Do you fly using commercial passenger airlines? When you do, do you buy the cheapest ticket you can? If you do, that means you have a scheduled flight with perhaps months in advance planning to ensure the highest state of predictability towards your destination. If you don't fly, why do you FUCKING CARE?
There is no need for any of the screening. There's no hijackers. 9/11 was an inside job. So was the underwear bomber. And the shoe bomber. To name a few.

You are incredible by mis-interpreting my perspective. Clearly most folks that choose to fly with a pre-planned event in mind have a rigid schedule AND have chosen non-refundable tickets well in advance; this planning provides the most inexpensive class of tickets. They aren't opting out for many reasons but they don't want a disruption in their business or travel plans. You claim you decided to drive as opposed to flying solely BASED on this silly issue of AIT. If you changed your mind, that is fine... but then again, you must have purchased a refundable ticket to begin with (typically, that class of ticket costs twice as much as regular fare) because you weren't going to fly to begin with.
Again, FOS. I have no personal travel plans this week. Bad assumption. However, AAA is showing that the public at large is staying out of airports.
