SAN ANTONIO (CBS/AP) John Fiala, a former Roman Catholic priest charged with sexually abusing a teenage boy in 2008 in his rural West Texas parish, is now accused of plotting the alleged victim's murder, authorities said.

Fiala of Garland was in the Dallas County jail Monday in lieu of bail totaling $700,000, according to online jail records. He was already charged with sexual abuse of a child and now faces a count of murder solicitation, records show.

Fiala, 52, was arrested at his home Thursday after meeting with an undercover officer to arrange the alleged victim's death, Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger told the San Antonio Express-News. Vinger said the investigation began Nov. 11 when Fiala's neighbor tipped off Edwards County Sheriff Don Letsinger.

The neighbor reported that Fiala had offered him $5,000 to kill the sexual abuse complainant, who is now 18, Letsinger said.

The teenager filed a lawsuit in April against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio and then-Archbishop Jose Gomez. The lawsuit alleged that Fiala repeatedly sexually assaulted the teen in 2007 and 2008.

According to the lawsuit, Fiala twice forced the youth to have sex at gunpoint while Fiala was the pastor at Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in the remote West Texas community of Rocksprings, about 110 miles west of San Antonio.

The lawsuit also alleged that officials of the archdiocese knew of serious issues with Fiala.

"Fiala had threatened him with physical violence and threatened to kill him before, and he was very afraid of that," said Dallas lawyer Tom Rhodes, who is representing the teen in the lawsuit.

When Edwards County authorities told the Archdiocese of San Antonio in 2008 that they were investigating accusations of custodial interference - not sexual abuse - by Fiala, the priest was removed from ministry, and the parish was told about the investigation, the archdiocese has said.

Glad they nabbed him, but dang, there sure seems to be a lot of undercover officers running around these days. I wonder what percentage of "hitmen" for hire are actually cops?

Unless you have solid mob connections, always do your own killing. Keep in mind that well over half of all homicides in America go unpunished. I believe many more go entirely undetected.

Was this an interview for a TSA managerial position or something

the hypocracy of the 'church' is so unreal, you have to wonder how they justify their thoughts on anything. At some point these cretins must look in a mirror.I had the misfortune to be one of the close calls. When I was 6 in California,I was at St. Joseph's in the 'crying room' pilfering the collection box with my my 8 yr. old brother,we were caught by the priest in charge of *discipline*? and marched off to his chambers, the POS told my brother to wait outside his office, and took me in the room,he told me to drop my pants and put my hands on the desk, while I waited for the slap, all I got was his hand on my butt.It was sureal,I had no idea what it meant, then by the grace of bugs bunny,my brother walked in and asked what was happening. The POS pulled my pants up and yelled at my brother to get out, which I translated as, both of us get out.we ran.I could not comprehend what happened that day,but somehow,I knew my brother had saved me.

i think that the majority of priests are homosexual or pedophiles. we'd probably be shocked to know the number of little boys abused at the hands of these men.

To me,the worst of the garbage on this planet.Using their power to satisfy their sexual perversions. There is no doubt they think about their actions ruining the life of their prey, yet they do it anyway, their pleasure is more important than the little boy's life...castrate all of them, and chain it to their necks.
