Liz Cheney 002 Senators, Liz Cheney want WikiLeaks leakers prosecuted

WikiLeaks hasn't even released the latest round of US government documents and already politicians and pundits are calling for prosecutions.

The latest release from the WikiLeaks website is expected to include as many as 250,000 secret diplomatic cables.

The Obama administration warned Wednesday that the documents could damage US relations with friends and allies.

"Leaking the material is deplorable," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday. "I agree with the Pentagon's assessment that the people at WikiLeaks could have blood on their hands."

"I don't know what the cables may say but it's just a -- we're at war. I mean the world is getting dangerous by the day and the people who do this are really low on the food chain as far as I'm concerned. If you can prosecute them, let's try."

Sen. Clair McCaskill (D-MO) agreed. "Lindsey's right," she said. "The people who are leaking these documents need a gut check about their patriotism and I think they're enjoying the attention they're getting but, frankly, it's coming at a very high price in terms of protecting our men and women in uniform."

"I hope that we can figure out where this is coming from and go after them with the force of law," McCaskill said.

Also appearing on Fox News Sunday, former State Department official Liz Cheney called for the government to go after the leakers.

"I think, once again, the government of Iceland ought to shut down that [WikiLeaks] website," Cheney said. "I think they ought to stop allowing the stuff to come out of the website in Iceland. I think that the administration ought to be focused very much on prosecuting those responsible."

The State Department sent a letter Saturday to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange asking him to halt the leaks.

Publication of documents of this nature at a minimum would:

* Place at risk the lives of countless innocent individuals -- from journalists to human rights activists and bloggers to soldiers to individuals providing information to further peace and security;

* Place at risk on-going military operations, including operations to stop terrorists, traffickers in human beings and illicit arms, violent criminal enterprises and other actors that threaten global security; and,

* Place at risk on-going cooperation between countries - partners, allies and common stakeholders -- to confront common challenges from terrorism to pandemic diseases to nuclear proliferation that threaten global stability.

"Despite your stated desire to protect those lives, you have done the opposite and endangered the lives of countless individuals. You have undermined your stated objective by disseminating this material widely, without redaction, and without regard to the security and sanctity of the lives your actions endanger," State Department legal advisor Harold Hongju Koh wrote.

"If you are genuinely interested in seeking to stop the damage from your actions, you should: 1) ensure WikiLeaks ceases publishing any and all such materials; 2) ensure WikiLeaks returns any and all classified U.S. Government material in its possession; and 3) remove and destroy all records of this material from WikiLeaks' databases."

Assange told reporters Sunday that Washington had "contacted the governments of almost every nation on earth to brief them about what some of these embarrassing revelations will do."

"They’re in a rather unusual difficult position where it is not sure precisely what is going to be revealed," he said.

WikiLeaks tweeted Sunday that their website was under a "mass distributed denial of service attack."

"El Pais, Le Monde, Speigel, Guardian & NYT will publish many US embassy cables tonight, even if WikiLeaks goes down," they wrote.

sharonsj [Moderator] 2 minutes ago I'm still waiting for that bitch's dad to be prosecuted for leaking the name of an undercover operative. That was true treason. Flag Like Reply Reply *

johnflagg [Moderator] 8 minutes ago Heck-of-a-job Homeland Security, I am sure that the other Gov organizations that are empowered to protect us have also been helping in protecting Americans and our secrets. Why just last week the FBI was able to protect us from the terror a 19 year old was willing to do. So this is my Holiday thanks to you and the FBI and the CIA and the NSA. Where would we be without you. Thanks Flag Like Reply Reply *

Rick Reed [Moderator] 53 minutes ago FORMER State Department Official?...Liz Cheney? Why are these people famous for being no one but a child of a famous person? Who the hell cares what Liz thinks? What the hell is she even doing ON TV giving her...Opinion? NEWS? There is no news, just idiots famous for nothing giving their opinion. I'm sick of it. WikkiLeaks? Gee, what happened to Transparency? TRUTH from Wikilinks?...we can't have that! Flag Like Reply Reply *

spike91nz [Moderator] Today 07:17 AM Frequently the argument from the right justifying invasion of privacy is; "if you don't have anything to hide why would it bother you for us to look?" It would appear a similar argument might be offered back to a government that increasingly claims the need to listen, watch, x-ray, test and pat down its citizens. If it hasn't got anything to hide, why should it be worried about the releasing of documents to WikiLeaks. If they do, the correction lies in not doing such behaviour in the first place and retaining some integrity of principles, rather than in repressing the information. If its good enough for the citizens to have their private communications inspected its good enough for the government. If they want a respect for privacy, they need to show a respect for privacy. Ian Kimmey [Moderator] Today 06:51 AM Of course she wants them prosecuted. she doesn't want her daddy to be seen for who he really is, which I am sure will happen when these leaks keep coming. I feel Wikileaks will bring a lot to getting this country on the right track again. I applaud them. As Jefferson said, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." Wikileaks will be a contributing factor if and when we get our liberties back, Flag Like Reply Reply *

consumed [Moderator] Today 06:05 AM In the US today, citizens are told there is no expectation of privacy in electronic communications. The government, especially the state dept, knows nothing is secure. The disclosures to date are unremarkable Flag Like Reply Reply *

Arlo J. Thudpucker [Moderator] Today 06:03 AM Ms. Cheney is complicit in attempting to hide the war crimes her father perpetrated. SHe is an accessory after the fact.

Lindsey, on the other hand, was part of the original treasonous cabal and should be arrested and charged with treason. Flag 2 people liked this. Like Reply Reply *

Johnny Warbucks [Moderator] Today 06:02 AM I would be willing to strike a deal with good ole Liz. Prosecute WikiLeaks...right along with her father. After that, let's hide Assange in a cave in Afghanistan. Lord only know they've been looking for Osama bin Laden there for 9 years and they keep coming up empty handed. Seems like the perfect hiding place for Assange. They'll never find him! Flag Like Reply Reply *

WikiLeaked cable from Bob Gates: 'Russian democracy has disappeared'

This is definitely the POT (as in Pol Pot) calling the Kettle Black !

While it looks like we still have a little mobocracy here in the States, American Freedom has disappeared since the FED was instituted.

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Revere God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man".

Lady Lindthey ith going to have a three-day hithy fit!!!

Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end.
Lord Acton

He (Gordon Duff) also implies that forcibly removing Obama, a Constitution-hating, on-the-down-low, crackhead Communist, is an attack on America, Mom, and apple pie. I swear these military people are worse than useless. Just look around at the condition of the country and tell me if they have fulfilled their oaths to protect the nation from all enemies foreign and domestic.
