Will Goldman Sachs Be Wikileaks Next Target?

WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange Wants To Spill Your Corporate Secrets by Andy Greenberg as published in Forbes.com. In a rare interview, Assange tells Forbes that the release of Pentagon and State Department documents are just the beginning. His next target: big business.

Early next year, Julian Assange says, a major American bank will suddenly find itself turned inside out. Tens of thousands of its internal documents will be exposed on Wikileaks.org with no polite requests for executives’ response or other forewarnings. The data dump will lay bare the finance firm’s secrets on the Web for every customer, every competitor, every regulator to examine and pass judgment on.

(For the full transcript of Forbes’ interview with Assange click here. http://blogs.forbes.com/andygreenberg/2010/11/29/an-interview-with-wikileaks-julian-assange/)

When? Which bank? What documents? Cagey as always, Assange won’t say, so his claim is impossible to verify. But he has always followed through on his threats. Sitting for a rare interview in a London garden flat on a rainy November day, he compares what he is ready to unleash to the damning e-mails that poured out of the Enron trial: a comprehensive vivisection of corporate bad behavior. “You could call it the ecosystem of corruption,” he says, refusing to characterize the coming release in more detail. “But it’s also all the regular decision making that turns a blind eye to and supports unethical practices: the oversight that’s not done, the priorities of executives, how they think they’re fulfilling their own self-interest.” I can only guess that the biggest fish amongst all US banks is Goldman Sachs although all of them appear guilty for so many illegal activities.

Regardless of your view of Wikileaks and the info it has released to date, this next dump should prove interesting and will hopefully be the cause of more "real" action on the part of our lawmakers.

A more concentrated effort on exposing the misdeeds and illegal activities of our Too Big Banks will also - I hope - expose those in our government who aided and abetted, condoned and even instructed their actions.

Assange has been targeting everyone but Israel. He has diplomats criticizing every nation but Israel. One guess who his source is.

Man it seems hopeless.

It is hopeless. When conditions were hopeless for our ancestors in Europe they cut their losses and courageously set off for America, an unknown quantity also not knowing if they would survive the journey.

We know of the hardships and hostilities they endured in order to establish a new nation.

We do not have the luxury of new territory to conquer and settle, but we can cut our losses, and opt out of the system. We may not survive the surgery and we will endure hardships and hostilities. We will have to give up our toys and grow up a lot, but in the end there will be hope.

Julian is about to become Pinguinite's next door neighbor in Ecuador. I wish I had an invitation to get the HELL out of Dodge.

I remember, when the Ecuadorian financial crisis was in full blow out, (1993?) I saw brand new two bedroom houses, very nice, in some kind of planned community, offered for IIRC something like $12000 USD.

Tho in my opinion, in situations like these, you can score a buy of the century or get your throat slit.

So I didn't act.

Besides I was hardly in a position to act and manage a RE purchase in Ecuador.

The only problem with that as I see it is that unless everyone, or at least most, opt out of the system, those that do will simply disintegrate and become expendable

What's a vampire squid?

That is a real squid, but the reference is to writer Matt Tabbibi(sp) who wrote a brilliant opinion on the Lehman and economic debacle essay that compared Goldman Sachs as a squid stuck on the face of America sucking out the vital fluids of life from its victim.

A good read, recommended. And the the best metaphor for the wholesale looting of the hapless citizens (victims) of the middle class that I have heard.

It is very much in the interest of TPTB that it does happen.

There will be more wikileaks sites coming on line. Assange is not a prodigy, only an inevitable player of the internet age.

It's safe to say he'll have another "insurance" file posted to his site before the bank info release.

I heard Ecuador retracted that offer soon after it was issued.

Ecuador isn't exactly friendly to free speech either, if it's anything critical of the gov here.

A 2 BR house in a gated community would run about 45K-55K today. At least in my area.

That is a fact. I guess we can't be migrated into Julian's network now. Damn the luck!

Well, Hugo Chavez (Venezuela) has made a bonafide offer; I question his spirit for ideal "free speech" too.

You don't want to make it automatic 'cause it can gum up other HTML stuff you might wanna to.
