It’s being hailed as a “breakthrough” achievement in food safety, and it would hand vast new powers and funding to the FDA so that it can clean up the food supply and protect all Americans from food-borne pathogens. There’s just one problem with all this: It’s all a big lie. Here are the ten biggest lies that have been promoted about S.510 by the U.S. Congress, the food industry giants and the mainstream media: Lie #1 – Most deaths from food poisoning are caused by fresh produce Here’s a whopper the mainstream media won’t dare report: Out of the 1,809 people who die in America every year from food-borne pathogens (CDC estimate), only a fraction die from the manufacturer’s contamination of fresh produce. By far the majority of food poisoning is caused by the consumption of spoiled processed foods, dead foods and animal-human transmission of pathogens. For example, one of the largest food-borne killers according to the CDC is Toxoplasma gondii, a disease that people acquire from cat feces coming into contact with their food, which can happen right in their own homes (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/Vol5n…). Salmonella poisoning accounts for 553 deaths a year. As a reference for relative risk, over 42,000 people die each year from road accidents in the USA, meaning driving a car has a roughly 7600% higher chance of killing you than eating fresh produce. (http://www.driveandstayalive.com/in…) In terms of food-borne illness, many of the deaths come from things like spoiled tomato sauce, spoiled canned foods and spoiled pasteurized milk. S 510, of course, does absolutely nothing to address these food contamination deaths, since those foods are considered “sterilized” at the time of sale. Lie #2 – Under S.510, the FDA would only recall products it knows to be contaminated Not true. S.510 merely requires the FDA to have “reason to believe” a food is contaminated. So right there, that means all raw milk will be targeted by the FDA because even without conducting any scientific tests at all, the FDA can say it has “reason to believe” the milk is contaminated merely because it is raw. In other words, the FDA no longer needs science to outlaw a food product. It merely needs an opinion. Is this “reason to believe” section really true? Yep, and here’s how it was amended: SEC. 208. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION OF FOOD. 23 (a) IN GENERAL. – Section 304(h)(1)(A) (21 U.S.C.24 334(h)(1)(A)) is amended by In other words, in negotiating this bill, the U.S. Senate removed the requirement that the FDA needed “credible evidence” in order to recall a product and, instead, replaced that with the FDA only needing “reason to believe.” It is utterly amazing that the U.S. Congress would give the FDA to conduct large-scale product recalls and even imprison people based entirely on what the agency “has reason to believe.” Last time I checked, the FDA held some pretty bizarre (if not downright moronic) beliefs, including this jaw-dropping whopper: The FDA literally believes that there is no food, no herb, no vitamin or supplement that has any ability to prevent disease of any kind. They don’t even believe limes can prevent scurvy, and you’d have to nutritionally illiterate to believe that. The FDA believes foods are inert and that all the amazing phytonutrients in those foods (carotenoids, antioxidants, therapeutic fats like omega-3 and so on) are utterly useless for human biology. This belief, held by the FDA that has now been put in charge of the food supply, is the belief system of an insane government agency that has completely lost touch with reality while abandoning nutritional science. Lie #3 – They didn’t tell you that nearly 70% of grocery store chickens are contaminated with salmonella every day Yep, it’s true: Amid all the fear-mongering over salmonella, everybody forgot to notice that the vast majority of fresh chickens sold at grocery stores every single day are widely contaminated with salmonella (http://www.naturalnews.com/028661_c…). Yet S 510 does absolutely nothing to address this. It’s not even mentioned in the bill. In fact, it is these contaminated chickens that end up cross-contaminating the fresh produce in many kitchens across America. So the so-called “food poisoning” that’s often blamed on spinach or onions often originates with the contaminated chicken meat people bring home and slice on their kitchen cutting boards. Lie #4 – S.510 will exclude and protect small farmers The Tester Amendment, which was finally included in S.510, excludes farmers who sell less than $500,000 worth of food each year from the more onerous paperwork and compliance burdens described in the bill. But this dollar amount is not indexed to inflation, meaning that as the U.S. dollar continues to lose value due to the Federal Reserve counterfeiting machine running at full speed (more “quantitative easing,” anyone?), food prices will continue to skyrocket — and this will shift even small family farms into the $500,000 sales range within just a few years. In fact, a single-family farm with just four people could easily sell $500,000 worth of fresh produce a year right now, even before inflation. Remember, $500,000 is not their profit, but rather the gross sales amount. The profits on that might be only $50,000 or even less. Furthermore, this $500,000 threshold means that small, successful farms that are doing well and would like to expand will refuse to hire more people or expand their operations. To avoid the tyranny of S 510, small farms will try to stay small, and that means avoiding the kind of business expansion that would create new jobs. Lie #5 – The FDA needs more power to enforce food safety The FDA already has the power to effectively recall foods by publicly announcing a product has been found to be contaminated. The FDA already has the power to confiscate “misbranded” products, too, and it could easily use this power to halt the sale of contaminated food items. But the FDA simply refuses to enforce the laws already on the books and, instead, has sought to expand its power by hyping up the e.coli food scares. The ploy apparently worked: Now in a reaction to the food scare-mongering, the FDA is being handed not just new powers, but more funding, too! And you can bet it will find creative new ways to put this power to work suppressing the health freedoms and food freedoms of the American people. Lie #6 – Fresh produce is contaminated because of a lack of paperwork There is no evidence that requiring farms to fill out more paperwork will make their food safer. The real cause of produce contamination is the existence of factory animal farms whose effluent output (huge rivers of cow feces, basically), end up in the water supply, soils and equipment that comes into contact with fresh produce. The food contamination problem is an UPSTREAM problem where you’ve got to reform the factory animal operations that now dominate the American meat industry. S.510, however, does absolutely nothing to address this. Factory animal farms aren’t even addressed in the bill! Lie #7 – The American people are dying in droves from unsafe fresh food The truth is that Americans are dying from processed food laced with toxic chemical additives, not from fresh, raw produce. Partially-hydrogenated oils, white sugar, aspartame, MSG and artificial food colors almost certainly kill far more people than bacterial contaminations. The American public is also dying from pharmaceuticals — anywhere from 100,000 to 240,000 people a year are killed by FDA-approved drugs (http://www.naturalnews.com/001894.html), most of which have been approved under the guise of blatantly fraudulent science and drug company trickery. The FDA doesn’t seem to mind. Lie #8 – The FDA just wants to make food “safer” Actually, the FDA wants to make the food more DEAD. Both the FDA and the USDA are vocal opponents of live food. They think that the only safe food is sterilized food, which is why they’ve supported the fumigation, pasteurization and irradiation efforts that have been pushed over the last few years. California almond growers, for example, must now either chemically fumigate or pasteurize their almonds before selling them (http://www.naturalnews.com/021776.html). This has destroyed the incomes of U.S. almond farmers and forced U.S. food companies to buy raw almonds from Spain and other countries. Lie #9 – Food smuggling is a huge problem in America One of the main sections of S.510 addresses “food smuggling.” Yep — people smuggling food across the country. If you’ve never heard of this problem that’s because it’s not actually a problem. Not yet anyway. But there’s a reason why they put this into the bill: Because they’re probably planning on criminalizing fresh produce and then arresting people for transporting broccoli with the “intent to distribute.” Yep, farmers bringing fresh produce to sell at the weekend farmer’s market could soon be arrested and imprisoned as if they were drug smugglers. Hence the need for the “food smuggling” provisions of S.510. Soon, we will all have to meet in secret locations just to trade carrots for cash. Lie #10 – S.510 will make America’s food supply the safest in the world Actually, even with S.510 in place, America’s food supply is among the most chemically contaminated in the world, second only to China. You can find mercury in the seafood, BPA in the canned soup, yeast extract (MSG) in the “natural” potato chips, and artificial petrochemical coloring agents in children’s foods. Eating the “Standard American Diet” is probably the single most harmful thing a person can do for their health. It’s the fastest way to get cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Every nation in the world that begins to consume the American diet starts to show record rates of degenerative disease within one generation. Along with all the attacks on our individual liberty this one is perhaps the most insidious because if the FDA has their way then more people will DIE and they will DIE younger. The whole point of the deadly food program is to provide people with a diet that will result in a STATISTICALLY HIGHER RATE OF MORTALITY. Translation: That means that more people will die as a result of unhealthy foods pushed off as healthy and by preventing access to healthy alternatives to Corprafood Death Diets.

Does the regulation of vitamins and other supplements fall under S.510?? I didn't see it addressed but I can't see the FDA giving up on their eternal quest to restrict my access to Vitamin C

This bill was also supported by Food, Inc. authors Michael Pollan and Eric Schlosser, who have become the favored food commentators of the left. It's now clear why: In supporting this bill, they have aligned themselves against Constitutional freedoms and in favor of increased Big Government (FDA) authority over food, seeds and farmers. Change.org also strongly supported S.510, although its online petition pitifully attracted only 1,662 signatures. The Libertarian groups who opposed the bill, in contrast, generated hundreds of thousands of emails and phone calls to U.S. Senate offices. These Libertarian-minded groups include NaturalNews, the Alliance for Natural Health (www.ANH-USA.org) and the Natural Solutions Foundation (www.HealthFreedomUSA.org), among others. Another Crime of the FDA Aspartame, "Erin Brockovich" And Title 18 Of The Criminal Code From Betty Martini 3-27-00 Current Julia Roberts movie "Erin Brockovich" , The Story Behind the Movie: In the context of this true story understand Title 18 of the Criminal Code. Aspartame used as an example. What the public should understand about this movie and in relationship to other environmental issues is the remark about misleading information. Under Title 18 of the Criminal code Section 1001, it is against the law to knowingly and willfully (1) falsify, conceal or cover up by any trick, scheme or device a material fact; (2) make any materially false, fictitious, or fraulent statement or representation or (3) make or use any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fradulent statement or entry. This is classic with aspartame. Examples: Call the FDA and they will tell you that aspartame studies proved safety. Yet, their own audit, the Bressler Report, showed aspartame was never proven safe (www.dorway.com). Their own senior FDA toxicologist, the late Dr. Adrian Gross who was on site said in a letter to Senator Howard Metzenbaum: "The views of the FDA's Center for Food Safety read like a script written for Abbott & Costello in the sense of their having perceptions inside-out and upside-down .... 329 fetuses were examined in 2 days by a single person (a clear impossibility). "We have uncovered serious deficiencies in Searle's operation and practices which undermined the basis for reliance on Searle's integrity ...Searle has not submitted all the facts or experiments to FDA, retaining unto itself the unpermitted option of filtering, interpreting and not submitting information ... an attitude of disregard for FDA's mission of protection of the public health ... conduct which compromises the scientific integrity of the studies." 14 test blunders are listed, including: Substitution of animals (hiding deaths) Using sick animals on drugs (unreported) Incomplete examination, unreported tumors Missing batch records Mixing food so rats in the test could avoid the product Destroying rats before they could be fully analyzed. The full frequency of brain tumors was not disclosed by Searle to the FDA. In l976 FDA Commissioner Dr. Alexander Schmidt publicly stated that FDA could not rely on Searle's studies. But the sloppy, incomplete, doctored and fraudulent "tests," with a little help from some friends, put NutraSweet on the market for over a billion dollars a year. Dr. Gross continued: "It seems bizarre that essentially the same set of studies could provide a foundation for a decision that ...demonstrated the safety of aspartame .. Although the General Accounting Office expresses the view that FDA followed its required process, I sharply disagree ... although FDA may have gone through the motions such a "process" or dance represented no more than a farce and mockery." Aspartame was not only never proven safe but on January 10, l977 in a 33 page letter, FDA Chief Counsel Richard Merrill recommended to U.S. Attorney Sam Skinner that a grand jury investigate Searle for "apparent violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. 331 (e), and the False Reports to the Government Act 18 U.S.C. 1001, for "their willful and knowing failure to make reports to the Food and Drug Administration required by the Act 21 U.S.C. 355 (i) and for concealing material facts and making false statements in reports of animal studies conducted to establish the safety of aspartame." The FDA called special attention to studies investigating the effect of NutraSweet on monkeys and hamsters. The RAO study, SC 18862 "52 week oral toxicity infant monkey study" is legend. Seven monkeys were fed aspartame, 5 had grand mal seizures and one died. According to a letter from Dr. Rudolph Harris of the FDA to Barbara Mullarkey, this study was actually used as pivotal in the approval of aspartame. Dr. Harris has yet to explain how this proves safety. One would probably think how could a study be any worse, out of 7 monkeys, 5 seizures and 1 death. Yet, on March 22, James Bowen, M.D., told me this study was repeated and that 100% of infant monkeys fed aspartame sustained grand mal irreversible epilepsy. He said the study was stripped from the FDA file but he had a copy and gave it to Attorney Charles Fleck in Lansing, Michigan. Later he said this attorney told him the studies he gave him just "disappeared". Dr. Bowen also told me of another study I had never heard about, a human study group where all subjects had a complete physical before using NutraSweet. He said they were given 3 cans of pop a day for 60 days. In the control group 12% had a physical complaint of some kind but in the NutraSweet group 42% did, a 250% increase in humans in 60 days right up front. He said of the NutraSweet group two developed highly malignant tumors, one breast, one bone which rapidly killed the subjects in spite of all that medical science could afford them, and that this study came straight out of FDA files. Now we're looking for anyone who has copies of these studies or who knows people who took part in these studies or any others. The studies discussed by senior FDA toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, above, actually ended up as he put it "providing a foundation for a decision that ... demonstrated the safety of aspartame". U.S. Prosecutors Sam Skinner and William Conlon instead of doing their job ended up hiring on with the defense and allowing the statute of limitations to expire. Aspartame was approved in l981 by Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes when he over-ruled a Board of Inquiry that told him not to do it. For instance it says "As a governmental agency charged with safeguarding the American food supply, the FDA has concluded that aspartame is safe for the general public, including diabetics, pregnant and nursing women and children." All you have to do is read Louis Elsas, M.D., testimony before Congress to realize the horrors of aspartame's effect on the fetus. Dr. Elsas is Pediatric Professor at Emory University in Genetics. Roberts position paper on aspartame and pregnancy and you will even see he mentions a man using aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects in his own child. In neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D., book Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills he mentions that aspartame is triggering ADD and autism. The front pages of newspapers are discussing toddlers on Prozac and Ritalin. Dr. H. J. Roberts book Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe?, Charles Press, even discusses how the phenylalanine in aspartame lowers the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin. Lowered serotonin triggers manic depression, mood swings, rage, suicidal tendencies, panic attacks, etc. Prozac is used for manic depression and yesterday Dr. Roberts told me that Prozac even contains fluoride. He has also said that to take Prozac with an aspartame laced drink is taking one psycho drug on top of another. Dr. Ralph Walton, Psychiatrist and Chairman for the Center for Behavioral Medicine says: "We have known for years that when aspartame is ingested with a carbohydrate rich meal the usual physiologic increase in tryptophan is blocked, while brain phenylalanine and tyrosine concentrations are increased. These changes in amino acid neurotransmitter precursors could, I believe, alter indoleamine/catecholamine balance, and thus have a profound effect on mood and cognition ... depressed mood, anxiety, dizziness, panic attacks, nausea, irritability, impairment of memory and concentration." Do you wonder why an article in the September, l999 issue of Parents Magazine was titled: "What's Wrong With Our Children?" It says the National Institute of Mental Health estimates that there are 12 million children under 18 with mental disorders and that at least 3 to 5% of American school age children suffer from ADHD and 5% show signs of depression. It also says by the end of high school one in four teens will have seriously considered suicide. "The problem is so widespread that its getting hard to find anyone whose son, niece, godchild or grandchild has been affected. Some observers are calling it an epidemic and demanding that screening programs, just like the ones for tuberculosis and other diseases be put into place." Can you now understand why H. J. Roberts, M.D., has declared Aspartame Disease a world epidemic? (www.sunsentpress.com) And Dr. Roberts is a diabetic specialist and this statement about aspartame being safe for diabetics is false and can cause the death of someone with diabetes. In Dr. Roberts position paper on aspartame and diabetes on www.dorway.com he explains aspartame can actually precipitate diabetes, keeps blood sugar out of control, can destroy the optic nerve and even cause diabetics to go into convulsions. Why are documents like this allowed to be distributed when they are in violation of Title 18 of this criminal code????? Furthermore, Monsanto/Searle funds trade organizations like the American Diabetes Association and American Dietetics Association and writes their material. They have been written to over and over again by physicians, and Dr. Roberts was a member of the American Diabetes Association for 35 years. Yet they have continually endorsed aspartame for diabetics with full knowledge it can take their life!! They even refused to publish Dr. Roberts abstract of aspartame diabetic reactors and it was published in Clinical Research. Aspartame destroys the central nervous system and mimics MS and the MS people continue to defend Monsanto and use the same misleading information on aspartame. The National Soft Drink Association tells the consumer public aspartame is safe when in their own protest against putting aspartame in soft drinks (on www.dorway.com) they admit its illegal under Section 402 of the FDC because aspartame decomposes and adulterates the pop. They say aspartame breaks down in moderate temperature. Yet, knowing it was against the law they turned around and put it in pop anyway. Why are trade organizations and the FDA allowed to violate the law? Even in Congress FDA toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, said that aspartame violated the Delaney Amendment because it triggered brain tumors and concluded by saying: "And if the FDA violates its own laws who is left to protect the public?" (Congressional Record SID835: 131 (August 1, l985). Conclusion: Aspartame was approved only because the FDA violated the law!!! James Bowen, M.D., told the FDA years ago (paper on www.dorway.com) that aspartame is mass poisoning of the American public and more than 70+ countries of the world. The FDA ignored the statement just like they ignored the law. The Community Nutrition Institute in l986 petitioned the FDA to ban aspartame because hundreds were going blind. The FDA again turned their back on the public. In Dr. Roberts first book Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe?, Charles Press, he concludes by quoting his comments at his first press conference. He said if something wasn't done then in 5 or 10 years we could have a world plague. The book was copyrighted in l990. Today he has declared Aspartame Disease a world plague and completed a medical text on this epidemic ready for publishing. Now with the Trocho Study, l998, it shows what we have always known that formaldehyde accumulates in the cells and damages DNA. Translation: "Do-It- Yourself Embalming!" Sandra Cabot, M.D., from Mission Possible Australia says she prefers to be embalmed "after" dying. Pilots are having grand mal seizures in the cockpits of commercial airliners. Five heavy users of aspartame with American have died, one in flight, and one had a stroke. This hazard to aviation is putting passengers and crew alike in jeopardy of losing their life while FAA says they can't do a thing because FDA approved it as safe! Those responsible to solve the problem ARE the problem. The FDA has betrayed the public trust, operated above the law, and because of their approval of a deadly neurotoxin for human consumption have created what may end up being one of the largest epidemics in world history. FDA has become Monsanto's Washington Branch office. In June Monsanto hired Dr. Michael Friedman of the FDA who defended them on 60 Minutes in l996 and who we have sent case histories never reported. What a reward! Now Monsanto has sold NutraSweet to Michael Dell and Pegasus Capital Advisors. Is this a straw man? Will they resell it again? Are they trying to avoid liability? Dr. Bowen told the FDA many years ago: .. "the only responsible action would be to immediately take aspartame off the market, fully disclose its toxicities, offer full compensation to the injured, public and criminally prosecute anyone who participated in the fraudulent placement of aspartame in the marketplace. that includes those who work so diligently to keep it on the market as well." He also said: "Every known metabolite of aspartame is of marketed or questionable toxicity and patently unsafe for human safe." He also says he suffers from Lou Gehrigs Disease triggered by aspartame. It took four decades to bring a company to justice in the case of this true story, Erin Brockovich. Look at the case of tobacco and its still on the market. With aspartame the population is being embalmed, and they're poisoning our kids. What does it take to get Congress and the Justice Department to carry out the law? Is there any question at all of those guilty under Title 18, Section 1001? Think of the victims going from doctor to doctor without even being able to be diagnosed because even the physicians have received false and misleading information, and are not knowledgeable of the fact that over 6000 products, food and drugs, contain a literal chemical poison causing by the FDA's own report, 92 symptoms from 4 types of seizures to coma and death, and breaks down to a tumor agent. Its time for main stream media influenced by advertising to have some compassion on the human race and to tell this story. Good! The more heat the better. The Senate screwed up in their bill by including some tax measures (called "Revenue Enhancers") which is so blatantly unconstitutional, since all revenue bills are required, in specific language under the Constitution, to being in the House. So, for the time being the bill has been stalled again which is good news for freedom.
