from the ah,-whatever-happened-to-that-first-amendment dept While the Feds are still trying to figure out if they can take legal action against Wikileaks and Julian Assange, in the short term it appears that the government is resorting to more traditional censorship methods: pressuring companies to silence Wikileaks. Wikileaks had just started using Amazon's S3 storage, after trying to deal with a constant denial of service attack that started this past weekend, but Amazon has now apparently dumped Wikileaks after getting pressure from Senator Joe Lieberman, who flat out called for censoring Wikileaks and then applauded Amazon for following through: "(Amazon's) decision to cut off WikiLeaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies WikiLeaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material," he said in a statement. "I call on any other company or organization that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them." Anyone have a copy of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that they can send to Lieberman? Or is that not allowed these days? I'll repeat my earlier comments: Look at who's complaining the most about Wikileaks and you realize that it's the people who benefit from not being held accountable for their actions.

The whole clusterf*ck is so morally repugnant and evil it is hard to bear, I totally understand the head in the sand mentality, maybe it is better not to know about these evil whores and their 'doings'. Perhaps as the ship of the US empire continues to sink they will become ineffective, impotent and inconsequential, I can only hope and pray. Peace.

So now they say Assange *seized* the material. There's no evidence than anyone seized it. Whomever leaked it may have had legal access to it. The DOS attacks are quite silly. All wikileaks needs to do is set up a bittorrent with the info. It won't be searchable that way but it'll get out.
Over the years I have purchased a number of things thru Amazon. This morning I sent them an e-mail closing my account and told them why. I also told them I am going to recommend to all my friends, co-workers, members at my church and everybody on my email lists that they also boycott Amazon. I know I am just a grain of sand on the beach but maybe if enough people do this type of thing it might end up costing Amazon a fair share of income/profit. Unfortunately, most Americans are too soft or too content with their lives to take any initiative on anything. That is why our country is in the shape it is in today. The old "it doesn't affect me or my family so why should I ....." excuse.
Nah ... just put him in a round room and tell him there is a dime in the corner. That will keep him busy for a long time.
I hate the government as much as anyone, but leaking classified documents that only hurt the USA and bring the world closer to WW3 is not something I stand up and cheer on. I applaud Amazon for taking this action and truly hope the REAL leakers are found and prosecuted but I highly doubt that will ever happen.

Rick, I am surprised at that comment. These leaks don't hurt the USA. They embarrass the top level of the government, many, if not most are global class thugs in thousand dollar suits.
I'm a bit confused by this whole wiki thing. It appears it may actually have been done to boost Israeli standing and to discredit Iran. Does anyone have any idea who and what Assange's loyalties are? It may not really be much of an embarrasement to the USA, as the scum sucking pols here have NO shame.

I think this WikiLeaks thing is all a big psyop. Of course they have to make it look like they're angry at Assange for it to be taken seriously, but if they really wanted to, they would have found him (and neutralized him) long ago. If he were leaking REAL info concerning sensitive matters (ie. 9/11, super secret projects, etc.), it would have been delt with in the blink of an eye.
These docs don't hurt the U.S. and I think most people understand that the documents leaked dealing with Israel and Iran were done intentionally knowing they would appear on Wikileaks. Personally until something that really hurts people happens, I don't believe most Americans have the balls to stand up to our corrupt govt. Obama was put into office by the elite for one reason - to cause race to become a major and divisive issue. How many liberals/progressives that spoke out against the wars are silent because it is their "boy" who is running the show. I have repeatedly posted how obama is doing the exact same things bush did on the obama.com site and all I get in return is "you are a racist" and "obama is doing what is best to protect us". These are the same people who were against the wars and the wild spending sprees during the bush years. The anti-war fever has been put on the back burner and now many of these former anti-war racists support an attack on Iran. Hegelian dialectic. Israel and those who support it are experts at using this type of propaganda and disinformation to achieve their desired goals.
