Source to Stephanopoulos: President Bush Directly Involved In Leak Scandal Near the end of a round table discussion on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos dropped this bomb: Definitely a political problem but I wonder, George Will, do you think it’s a manageable one for the White House especially if we don’t know whether Fitzgerald is going to write a report or have indictments but if he is able to show as a source close to this told me this week, that President Bush and Vice President Cheney were actually involved in some of these discussions. This would explain why Bush spent more than an hour answering questions from special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. It would also fundamentally change the dynamics of the scandal. President Bush could no longer claim he was merely a bystander who wants to “get to the bottom of it.” As Stephanopoulos notes, if Bush played a direct role it could make this scandal completely unmanageable. Excellent find.. Such a twist would really make things interesting. The CIC and his veep, plotting to smear some poor woman. Which was the worst of the unchargable offences in the Lewinski scandal, actually.

It was despicable behavior on the part of the Clinton White House. But it was either not criminal, or at least a much less serious violation of the criminal law than outing a covert officer of the CIA.
Not just a poor woman either, there are reports speculating that other agents were hurt even more; besides whatever work they were doing. No sacrifice was too big to get us into Iraq, it seems.
Not even a sacrifice that seriously hindered our efforts to stop proliferation of WMD's. (Or was that effect intended?)
True.. This is punishable. But the same pettyness is the motivation for it. It was shameful then and it's both shameful & criminal now. IMO, anyone who called for Clinton's head should be absolutely screaming for Dubya's, provided the charge can be proven.

A happy unintended consequence? Or the main event? Who knows? It all went "their" way. But, perhaps their day is just about over.
Even if they weren't the setback is considerable, both economically and with regard to intelligence gathering.. and then, as you say, there's the possibility of physical harm to be considered. Maybe.. OTOH, it may have been something as simple as a personal vendetta or sending "a message" Pride? Who knows..

Also good guesses, but Joe Wilson appears to have ignored "the message". Others, may have been stopped though. Congress and MSM are behaving so pathetically weak and frightened.

Okay, repeat after me, dear reader: "unindicted co-conspirators." Or perhaps "indicted co-conspirators." If Steph's source is on the money, this means that Bush's insinuations and implicit statements that he was not involved, including all those promises to "get to the bottom" of the matter, are bogus.
What's smirk ever said that wasn't bogus? He's making bentmember look like George Washington, for crying out loud.
