Title: What do you think should be done about police nationwide who insist it's illegal to film them?

cops keep telling everyone its not legal to film police, in public or during a traffic stop. a Ron Paul supporter sued homeland security this year after they arrested him for filming outside a federal building. he won, when dhs settled & paid damages. a motorcyclist who had been charged with wiretapping for his helmet cam during a traffic stop had the charges tossed out by the judge recently. However, police keep arresting people & threatening them for filming police. the government has cameras everywhere, yet tells us if we film, it's a crime. What should the people do? i was taking a photo recently in a public place, hadn't even seen the officer in my photo, when he startled me by barking that NO PHOTOS ALLOWED, ITS ILLEGAL. f-$#! lol. why do they do this & what would you have done, in that instance?

I think we should get Hollywood to make a movie about them harassing and busting people for filming them. They can be classified as extras so they are not covered by union wages. Just have a a couple hundred Hollywood cameramen follow them around and each time somebody is filming the cops or taking pictures of them the Hollywood folks could film it for their movie.

They could call the movie Porkys caught on film harassing those who catch them on film.

do you remember the original 'incredible hulk' tv show with Bill Bixby in the 80s? it was one of my favorite shows as a kid. it was a quiet show, a character study actually. david banner was a nice man who just wanted a peaceful life & to be left alone. At the endvof each episode the dramatic piano music would play as he walked down the roadway by himself. i was the hulk for halloween as a kid. that show really resonated with me, & still does. but screw with david banner & another side emerges. the angry side. the side that wants justice. Hit him too many times, & the eyes burst the blue-ish green neon glow, & 'IT'S ON!'. That is what happens when some f$#@%&ing PIG has the $$# gall to dare tell mebi cant take a photo in my own ^%$$ country. i mean, what the F? I told that kook that i hadnt been taking pic of him, but now that he'd said that, not only was i going to do that, but i am gonna videotape him directly, which i did. thar exchange will be on youtube soon. it is outrageous what they do.

The problem is that the cameras are scaring the pooooooooor cops. The ones that have a cow, regardless of their protests, know that they are subject to being held accountable if there is video evidence of their violations of the law. So, it is bluster. You know it's legal, and THEY know it is legal, but it scares them because criminals do not like having their crimes exposed.

I'd tell them they are public servants, acting in their official capacity, on public property, with the public. Say, officer, is that a dashcam in your squad car? And another on your radar gun? And you will file a report about our contact with your agency, with my personally identifying information? What was that about respecting privacy, again? Even though you're acting on behalf of The State and I'm not?

it seems like some of them actually believe it is illegal. they tell people not to film them even when they (the cop) isn't doing anything wrong. its like a paranoia & arrogance that is beyond the pale.

Oh, I didn't say it was a rational reaction as it is not. Some of them may mistakenly believe they are exempt but it is, I believe, more a matter of you are stirring up an irrational reaction based on past misdeeds. So, they feel vulnerable even though they are not currently doing anything wrong. They very likely have committed some act, as an officer, that was wrong but in the end they have no idea why it causes the reaction themselves. It is just that it is reactivating that undisclosed past misdeed. That is why confession works because it gives a person the opportunity to get those misdeeds off their chest. It is also probably why the Irish made such good cops. They got off their failings in confession so it ceased to be a burden causing a subconscious reaction.

Is that frowned upon?

I'm finding that the new breed of cop is so pussified that they are intimidated by the fact that I'm not intimidated.

that is a fascinating & one of a kind analysis. thanks. & actually, Bishop Fulton Sheen, don't know if youre familiar with him, made similar points regarding the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) as it relates to the conscience, & how unrepentant sin messed with peoples mental health. you in particular would find Sheen's expose of the shrink scam very interesting, particularly since he gave these talks decades ago during the popular emergence of the psych field.

I told a local cop last year and a Pennsylvania State trooper about 2 months ago you guys have gone loco with tasers and if any cop ever tasered me and I survived, I'd kill that cop and his family. He'd be one dead son of a bitch. As for filming, I don't have a camera.

Good response. This happened to me back in July. My wife went out to dinner and the parking meters were in force until 6pm. My wife likes to go out early before the maddening crowd. Anyway, the time expired and the meter maid wrote a ticket not 5 minutes before we came out of the restaurant. The tickets was $3 if paid within 24 hours and $25 if after. I drove directly down to the police station and paid the $3 and asked for a receipt. The lady asked the name and I said just make it out to the license number because that's how the ticket was written. She said we don't do that. I insisted she do it that way. Well you don't get a receipt then without your name. A jack booted thug came out from the back room and said, no name, no receipt. I then asked for my $3 dollars back. Eventually, he threatened to lock me up. I told him I would go get my wife outta the car so she could witness I paid the ticket, and that is what I did. I told the cop and lady that I'd see them in court if they tried to claim I didn't pay the ticket. I left with no receipt.

Screw the assholes!

Cool it, LACUMO. Violence whether real or imagined is being monitored by DHS on these web sites.

But, as a suggestion: you are obviously out of control and require some assistance from a local psychiatrist under administration from federal government. What form of mind control do you wish? In America, we are either going to inject you or cell pad you. This is freedom, today.

You do the same thing you do whenever someone has a gun and the power to do whatever he wants --- you say "yes sir" and do whatever he tells you to do. Then, later on, you bad-mouth them, stab them in the back, and make their lives miserable every chance you get.
