The last of family friends/relatives from Pearl Harbor died earlier this year. John Finn was 100 years old and still sharp in discussion and recollection.

John is perhaps best known outside the local community as the coolheaded chief petty officer who, when Japanese planes strafed his Kaneohe Bay base on the way to Pearl Harbor, grabbed a .50-caliber machine gun and returned fire for more than two hours from an exposed position. However, he and his wife, Alice, were best known by the locals for the foster home they maintained over the years for local indian (now referred to as Native American) children.

After the war, the Finns' purchased a Church camp in the area that became a refuge for so many young indians that had previously been sent to homes in the city of San Diego. Fortunately for the children who lived at the Finns ranch, they were allowed not only to have contact with their parents, but also to have the knowledge of all their people, their culture, their language and their history.

Both John and Alice are buried on the Campo reservation cemetery, just a short distance from their home.

I share this with all on the 4um because this day will always mean so much more to me beyond what we read and hear in the MSM. AND, too bad all those young men and women didn't give their lives to improving our lot. Instead, look at what we got. More damned trash!!!

What a wonderful story, Phant. God bless the memory of John Finn and the MEN of his generation. My political mentor joined the Marines in 1942 as a 17 year old kid from Philly. He island hopped from Tarawa to Iwo Jima. Nasty, nasty stuff that made men out of kids. America has had three 'greatest generations' IMO. The first being our Revolutionary fathers. The second, our Southern rebels, and the last, the WWII generation. Let me add that that generation lasted into Korea and lingered into Vietnam to a degree. Since the mid 70s, the nation has been on the fast skid to hell. America now is a place to hang my hat and nothing more.

And we can't even do that in peace. Now Big Sis and our 12 stitches in lip POTUS even have Walmart fooled into being snoops. Won't be long until everyone of us will be told to spy on our neighbors, family and friends.

Didn't we learn anything from history? What happened in Russia that gives the current elite any evidence that such behavior can be successful?
