According to the ino ticker blurb, Bernie's kid offed himself in his NYC apartment.

Always good to see criminals take justice upon themselves.
(1) Mark Madoff was unaware of his father's scam until he confronted his father about some questionable business decisions, at which point he learned about - and caused to be revealed - his father's Ponzi swindle. So Mark is actually something of a hero in this story. (2) He leaves behind a small son, also a grown brother. (3) He was recently hit with enormous lawsuits from victims of his father's swindle. He may well have felt a great deal of personal guilt and shame over this affair, and over his inability to make up everyone's losses.

Agreed.
Why? The guy began to fall in the chasm of depression and despair after ratting out daddy two years ago to the day he decides to check out. Seems to be some truth to the old adage of sins of the father. Bernie's boy was hit with a lawsuit going after his assets as well as the assets of his wife, ex- wife and his children, thus extending the sins of the father down two generations.
Seems to me that guilt, shame, embarrassment, depression, alienation, loss of self-respect and self-worth all constitute a fair amount of evidence to the contrary in regards to help in hanging himself. Powerful list of motivators right there.

As detailed above in my speculation - he was an embarrassing loose end that needed to be "tidied up". I am not saying that he did not actually commit suicide, it is well within the realm of possibility that, that is exactly what happened. I am just suggesting that there were people, powerful people, who had sufficient motivation to see that he was in no position to talk and ceased to draw attention to the case.
