There are a lot of people with Jewish ancestry who are not even aware of it. If you trace back my Scots-Irish ancestors far enough the original family name was Maccabeus. Of course you have to go back to the 2nd and 3rd century, but it is so. However, they haven't been Jewish in likely well over 10 centuries.

To make the situation more clear, I maintain the term Jew is determined by culture. If you want to be one, so be it. Race, blood and religion are of no consequence. So, the argument is that EVERYONE you don't like has a Jew somewhere in their family tree. It doesn't matter if they don't even know it. Maybe you can't even identify that ancestor or give a date to him or her but you "just know" that there's a Jew somewhere in their ancestry. And that somehow means something, even if nobody in their family line has set foot in a synagogue for at least 500 years.
