Not too often. I read AP, Reuters, Scrips-Howard, etc., etc., since that is the stuff the mainstream media vomits up in 30 second sound bytes on TV or print news redacts to fit their agenda or newspaper space.

However, I also get news from other sources such as Mises.com, rockwell.com, the future of freedom foundation, The Freeman Online, reason magazine, antiwar.com, chronicles. Hell I even hold my nose and read articles from partisan publications such as salon.com and the weekly standard (always good to know what your enemies are up to.)

Russia Today is about as main stream as I go. The only reason to watch main stream media is to check out what the enemy is up to, and I have my sources to weed through that Barbara Streisand.

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men." -- Samuel Adams (1722-1803)‡

"The ground of liberty is to be gained by inches, and we must be contented to secure what we can get from time to time and eternally press forward for what is yet to get. It takes time to persuade men to do even what is for their own good." -- Thomas Jefferson

I don't even know who the people are on mainstream news anymore.

Me neither.

I see clips on Youtube. I saw Katie Couric. I remember seeing her in the news when she went to CBS a few years ago. I was surprised to learn she was a blonde.

I have not watched MSM network news in 15 or more years. I never subscribed to a newspaper.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

Does Anyone Here Read Mainstream News Anymore?

Yes, but only "deeply" for local news.

National news and most things from the MSM are now an exercise in "how to read" newspapers and articles.

Generally speaking, I end up scanning articles picking out facts and figures and discarding the rest. For a couple of decades now, journalism courses have been teaching how to "make people get what you want them to get out" of a story.

Facts? Unbiased reporting? Gone for the most part.

But they can't invent dates, the force of a hurricane, or the number of points the DOW dropped in a day for the most part.

So yes, I do, and no, I don't, because I don't take their stories as they want me to take them. I take them as they HAVE to be taken nowadays. As a small amount of fact wrapped up in a wad of garbage.

A people unwilling to use force, once diplomatic efforts have been exhausted, in order to preserve or obtain their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule over them.

Does Anyone Here Read Mainstream News Anymore?

No.

I have not watched an MSM "News" cast in about 8 years. And even then I was mostly looking for the weather report. Network News, or PBS (same thing), is at least ten years since I actually sat and watched one all the way through. I used to listen to schlock radio for news, which was more informative, but found that it was, in the end, just as much spin as the Network Tee Bee Nooze.

I used to read the editorial section and the funnies in the local rag, but have not done that on any regular basis since about 2002.

What little I have seen agrees with your view - it is vacant and vacuous.

"“Believe nothing merely because you have been told it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.” ~ Gautama Siddhartha — The Buddha

i get most of my news here actually. :-) i dont watch tv. if i see a tv clip, it is generally of interest afterwards on youtube. i wont buy the paper, but will read the local papers online. i do see a lot of 'mainstream' stuff here at 4um, & garner certain info from it. the posters here contribute to an informed learning environment, which is why i come here. everyone has some knowledge or perspective i can benefit from. & i try to share info that i know.
