New York TV meteorologist arrested for false rape claim

Original post December 15, 2010: According to New York police, on November 24, 2010, WABC weather forecaster Heidi Jones, 37, made a false police report when she claimed that a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s had attacked her in Central Park while she was jogging exactly two months earlier on September 24.

Jones claimed that the man grabbed her from behind, then dragged her into a wooded area and attempted to rape her. The man bolted when two tourists saw the incident and screamed, she claimed.

Jones also claimed that the same man showed up near her Manhattan apartment two months later, on November 21, to threaten her. He allegedly told her: "I know you went to the police." (She had not gone to the police -- November 24 was the first time she reported the alleged incidents to police.)

According to the New York Post: ". . . for cops, the story was all wet. The first clue was that she waited until Nov. 24, two months later, to report the alleged attack . . . ."

According to police, detectives conducted a lengthy investigation and canvassed the area for video and witnesses, but came up empty-handed. They went to speak with Ms. Jones again, and noticed more inconsistencies in her story, unnamed New York Post sources said. After being confronted with the discrepancies, a New York Post source said Miss Jones admitted that she had made up the story.

Jones allegedly told police she was having problems in her relationship and thought reporting the bogus crimes would gain her sympathy.

Jones has been suspended by the station pending an investigation. She is due in court on Jan. 5, and could face up to a year in prison if convicted.

Jones’ attorney said she is urging people to refrain from jumping to conclusions about the unproven charges against her.

Ironically, in 2007, Jones co-hosted a television show celebrating the anniversary of Central Park.

According to Jones' personal website, RunWithHeidi.com, her 'motto' is this: "If you knew you wouldn’t fail, what would you try?"

Motivation

One female writer pondered Jones' motivation: "So what kind of personal problems prompt a woman to pretend she’s been raped? As a woman, the only thing I can think of is maybe you’ve gotten some kind of STD that you need to account for in some way other than how you actually acquired it. I can see how if she tried to sell that story to her significant other, it could just all blow up in her face…as it obviously has." http://www.current-movie-reviews.com/people/2010/12/15/heidi-jones-pretended-she-was-raped-wanted-attention-something-smells-and-its-not-tuna/

Jones' purported motivation matches one of the common motivations of false rape accusers cited by experts in the field. In one landmark report, Dr. Eugene Kanin identified "Attention/Sympathy-Getting Device" as one of the three most common reasons for false rape claims in a study he had undertaken. Dr. Kanin wrote:

"Although this device seems to be the most extravagant use for which a false rape charge is made, it is also the most socially harmless in that no one was identified as the rapist. Approximately 18% (n = 8) of the false charges clearly served this function. The entire verbalization of the charge is, by and large, a fabrication without base."

Identification of Alleged Hispanic Attacker

False rape claims are not divorced from the culture in which they are made. To enhance the plausibility of the lie and to jack up its scariness quotient, many false rape claims tap into stereotypes and widely shared prejudices by identifying imaginary minority males as the perpetrator, especially blacks and Hispanics, because of the perceived greater likelihood of black and Hispanic men to be involved in violent criminal activity than Caucasian males.

In this case, Jones concocted an imaginary Hispanic man as her would-be rapist.

My mother worked in admitting in the ER for many years and said 90% of rape allegations were false.

In so-called family law court beotches in my estimation make false claims of abuse, domestic violence, threats of same, molestation all the time and likely 99% are false. This needs to end, my answer is don't marry beotches ever, and for the most part ignore them completely, they have created this, let them sleep in their bed.

I wonder if the scum from Sweden who are acusssing Julian Assange will ever be brought to justice. You can get their contact information here: www.avoiceformen.com/2010...-contact-information-for- julian-assange-rape-accusers/

Sweden, arguably the most feminist nation on earth, the same country now contemplating putting the burden of proof on men accused of rape to actually prove their innocence (whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean), is also home to the two women who have accused Julian Assange of rape.

Why should they be brought to Justice?

that is very sad about the family court situation you describe. only a portion of the women will make such false accusations when they're empowered to do so. But the government has created a fundamentally unfair and dysfunctional situation by rewarding women for such false accusations. this is suicidal for our nation's future. If the rulers of our country cared about our future, then reform in those family courts would be a priority.

Both women have already said they weren't raped. The charges were dropped by the Swedish courts two months ago. A politician renewed the search for Assange.

Here is what happened:

Report: Fears of STDs sparked sexual misconduct case against WikiLeaks boss

WASHINGTON — The two Swedish women who accuse WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of sexual misconduct were at first not seeking to bring charges against him. They just wanted to track him down and persuade him to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases, according to several people in contact with his entourage at the time.

The women went to the police together after they failed to persuade Assange to go to a doctor after separate sexual encounters with him in August, according to these people, who include former close associates of Assange who have since fallen out with him.

The women had trouble finding Assange because he had turned off his cell phone out of concern his enemies might trace him, these sources said.

Assange, who was arrested and held in custody by a British court on Tuesday, has both admirers and detractors. His WikiLeaks group publishes secret documents from governments and companies, most recently making public a vast trove of U.S. State Department cables between Washington and embassies abroad that have cast a revealing and sometimes embarrassing eye on the inner workings of U.S. diplomacy.

Assange's elusiveness may have worked against him in the Swedish investigation, which might well have gone nowhere had he taken the women's calls and not left Sweden when police started looking into the allegations.

The Swedish investigation has undergone head-spinning twists and turns. After initially issuing a warrant for Assange's arrest on rape and molestation charges in mid-August, a Swedish prosecutor dropped the rape charge the next day. After this U-turn, it appeared likely that the whole investigation of the 39-year-old Australian computer hacker would be abandoned.

Assange's accusers then hired a lawyer who declared he would press prosecutors not only to keep the investigation going but to reinstate rape charges. The case was soon transferred to one of Sweden's three Directors of Public Prosecutions, Marianne Ny, who indeed decided to reinstate the rape investigation and continue the molestation probe. She ordered that Assange should be subject to official interrogation about the allegations.

After Assange left the country, Swedish authorities issued a European arrest warrant under which Assange could be detained and returned to Sweden. A spokeswoman for Swedish prosecutors affirmed, however, that at the moment Assange is not formally charged in Sweden with any criminal offense, but is only wanted only for questioning.

Swedish encounters The most serious accusation Swedish prosecutors made against him in a statement on their website is that he committed "rape, less serious crime" — the least serious of three levels of rape charges that are on the statute books in Sweden. Conviction carries a maximum four year jail sentence and a minimum of less than two years, depending upon the circumstances.

As described by several people who were in contact with Assange and his inner circle at the time the allegations against him surfaced, both of his accusers are young Swedish women who came into contact with him during a visit to Sweden on behalf of WikiLeaks.

One of the women, identified in the British court hearing on Sweden's extradition request as Miss A, was listed on publicity for Assange's Swedish visit as a spokesperson for a group hosting the WikiLeaks leader.

People who were in contact with both Assange and other members of his entourage at the time say that the woman at some point invited him to stay at her residence.

Assange's financial resources are opaque, but by most accounts he maintains an austere lifestyle, supporting himself on the donations of wealthy and not-so-rich supporters and overnighting in a succession of friends' spare rooms.

According to the accounts of Assange's associates, his overnight stays at his erstwhile spokeswoman's residence soon evolved into a sexual relationship between the two. During one of their encounters, the woman later said, a condom Assange was wearing broke or split.

People who saw Assange and the woman in the days after this incident is said to have occurred said the two displayed little if any obvious sign of tension or hostility; to some who saw them at the time, it was not clear their relationship was anything other than amicable and chaste.

A few days later, however, people who were in contact with Assange then told Reuters, a second, younger woman went to a seminar addressed by Assange.

$15 train ticket According to an account published by London's Daily Mail — which said it had access to heavily redacted versions of the statements both women made to Swedish police — the second woman had become obsessed by Assange after watching him on television. After hearing him speak at the seminar, the newspaper said, the woman, identified in court as Miss W, loitered outside the meeting hall, and eventually was invited to lunch with Assange and his entourage at a local bistro.

A day after their initial meeting — which the Mail account said included a visit to a natural history museum — Miss W agreed with Assange that he should spend the night at her apartment about 45 minutes outside Stockholm. The paper says she had to pay for his $15 train ticket because he had no cash and didn't want to use a credit card in case it would help authorities locate him.

That night, according to the accounts of both the newspaper and people who were in contact with Assange and his inner circle, he and Miss W had sex using a condom.

The next morning, however, under circumstances which remain deeply murky, the sources said, Assange allegedly had sex with the woman again, this time without a condom. Then, after a meal during which the Mail says that the woman joked that she could be pregnant, they parted on friendly terms, with Miss W buying Assange his train ticket back to Stockholm.

Two people who were in contact with Assange's entourage before, during and after these events said that while some details are still unclear, it appears that after parting from Assange, Miss W became increasingly concerned that he might have given her a sexually transmitted disease.

According to the sources, Miss W anxiously tried to phone Assange to plead with him to go to a doctor and be tested for sexually transmitted diseases. However, the sources said that Assange had turned his phone off, leaving Miss W no way to get in touch with him.

Becoming increasingly anxious about possible dire consequences of having had sex without a condom, Miss W then began trying to contact Assange through various people she believed were in touch with him.

This eventually led her to Miss A — who according to people who followed the case closely was not previously acquainted with Miss W.

But it was all consensual sex.

Both women have already said they weren't raped.

The charges of "sexual misconduct' stand, that is the cover to jail him.

I never said they were raped.

They are lying feminist beotches and should be charged, tried and punished for making false accusations for personal and political gain.

From your piece: "Assange's accusers then hired a lawyer who declared he would press prosecutors not only to keep the investigation going but to reinstate rape charges. But the entire issue is about STD..... that is all. And the Swedish courts already dismissed the issues from the claimants.

Assange is falsely accused as most know. And in his case, both accusers exchanged data leading to the later claims.

Yes, I agree, it is about false accusations.

IMO the accused should be made 'whole' and the liers punished.

In many cases of false accusation the liers are rewarded and the innocent life destroyed, it truly is disgusting what has become of western culture.

Again, Assange's accusers are merely afraid of STD. The "rape" charges are hot-aire.
