John Williams was gunned down by a psycho cop on a Seattle street last August
Wood carver John Williams was crossing a street when a police officer spotted him carrying a knife and a piece of wood.
Seattle police say Officer Ian Birk, 27, thought Williams was a threat.
Investigators say Williams had turned to face the officer but would not say if he had made any sort of move toward him.
Williams, 50, had been living in Seattle for 18 years, working as a carver at the Pike Place Market in the city's downtown tourist district, when he was shot Aug. 30.
He died after the officer shot him four times in the chest.
Audio recordings from the patrol car indicate Williams failed to comply with repeated orders to put down his knife, Seattle police said. A local art dealer said Williams was deaf in one ear and likely did not hear the officer.
Birk's lawyer did not agree with the release of the video, but King County District Court Judge Arthur Chapman ruled on Thursday that the footage should be released Friday.
Birk was recently asked to turn in his badge and his gun.
An inquest into the shooting is scheduled for January.

The officer drew his firearm and within a few short seconds blasted the man in the back with four shots in rapid succession where there was no apparent threat to anyone nor any obvious crime in process. That was cold blooded murder.

Just reading between the lines I think his Lordship was incensed that the lowly scumbag serf did not immediately respond to his commands. In other words he went into a rage when the guy didn't hear him and which he interpreted as disrespect for his exalted status of thug with badge and gun and so simply executed the serf for disrespect.

This reminds me of fire fighters who start fires, only to 'accidentally' stumble on to the scene first, and fake some act of heroism. This cop wanted a kill so he could be looked up to by his peers in his sick, upside down working world.

I'd like to know if the cop was on psychotropic drugs or if there was a record of any prior confrontation with the victim. Dangerous cops are another reason why citizens should ALL be armed. These types of events have been increasing.

I refused to watch the video of the shooting [might not have been able to if I wanted to]. I was P.O.'ed enough just reading about it, and didn't want to see this poor man offed like that. noone, my computer is running too slowly to watch your video [I tried], and wudidiz, likewise on the liveleak recording [it was so choppy for me I couldn't make much out of it...will have to try again later]....plus I saw it after I posted my comment....so, did I jump to an unfair conclusion re the "brain-AD'L-ed cops"?
