John Williams was gunned down by a psycho cop on a Seattle street last August
Wood carver John Williams was crossing a street when a police officer spotted him carrying a knife and a piece of wood.
Seattle police say Officer Ian Birk, 27, thought Williams was a threat.
Investigators say Williams had turned to face the officer but would not say if he had made any sort of move toward him.
Williams, 50, had been living in Seattle for 18 years, working as a carver at the Pike Place Market in the city's downtown tourist district, when he was shot Aug. 30.
He died after the officer shot him four times in the chest.
Audio recordings from the patrol car indicate Williams failed to comply with repeated orders to put down his knife, Seattle police said. A local art dealer said Williams was deaf in one ear and likely did not hear the officer.
Birk's lawyer did not agree with the release of the video, but King County District Court Judge Arthur Chapman ruled on Thursday that the footage should be released Friday.
Birk was recently asked to turn in his badge and his gun.
An inquest into the shooting is scheduled for January.

Then use excessive force and impose your [personal] will. Then of course lie through your teeth, perhaps not truly a lie to you since you're somewhere between plain mental and psychotic. 5. Colleagues (and the system largely and generally speaking) then back you up implicitly and entirely while having absolutely no facts whatsoever except for your side of the story. This IS LE today in Amerika! That was a really nice & concise precis of the mindset that we face. Here is the perfect program for the infantile authoritarian personalities that LE is attracting these days. I recommend everyone spend a day in court to see with their own eyes the lowlifes LE attracts....they would also see how the courts rend the people and spit them out, and sock it to the taxpayers for the courts, judges, and lawyers to profit.
I recently had a parking ticket null-pross'd. What a circus. Just a horde of the unwashed poor, about 150 of them arraigned for all manner of petty delicts committed in a world in which these people can barely keep up with the requirements of modern life like keeping car paperwork and insurance in order, keeping their kids from fighting in school and committing various minor trespasses against neighbors and authority. All of this presided over by underlings like the black and hispanic asst. DA's and secretaries and white deputies. The judge doesn't even show for this three-ring deal. The assistant prosecutor and her assistants herd the offenders into groups, line them up and offer them each a little deal. Just a couple of suits in the audience - lawyers for those with dough or for those that couldn't be there because they were serving time elsewhere. Like I said quite a circus.
I know...so sad. I attended one court recently also attended by some Tea Partiers [first ones I had ever met]...it was annoying to hear them cluck and gasp as one black guy was arraigned for stealing something over $300 from a store [not nice to be sure, but I woke up thinking what the Bible says about stuff like that...something like they are to pay back double, maybe]. Instead, this guy faced a huge fine, 6 months to a year in jail, and the taxpayer would get stuck with the huge bill to the prison-industrial complex. I don't think the store that was robbed gets reimbursed at all, so who is this supposed to benefit? The judges doesn't even show for this three-ring deal. The assistant prosecutor and her assistants her the offenders in groups, line them up and offer them each a little deal. This is a new one on me...the judge not even showing up...but it figures. These courts are not Constitutional; they are Corporate "administrative bodies", attorning the chattel to The Crown, and all "crime" is COMMERCIAL, including murder, and the judges and the lawyers all get their "cut". 1. Look for problems and assume that anyone and everyone is up to no good and a criminal automatically. You must develop this 24/7/365 mindset, which is what ruins what few good people decide to become LEOs.
