A conservative commentator recently made headlines by claiming 10 percent of all of the world's Muslims are terrorists. An amazing claim, considering that equals 150 million terrorists and if each were to pull off an attack killing just 40 people, they could exterminate all non-Muslim life on earth.

Either they're not all that dedicated to terrorism, or the claim is utter insanity.

Well, if there's one thing everyone thinks of when they hear "Cracked.com" it's "friend of Islam." Which is why we feel compelled to clarify a few misconceptions for our readers. Also, there is no way this article will ever come back to haunt us in any way.

I am not so keen about the last item. So 45% -- that's less than half -- of American Muslims are evolutionists. Less than half, and that's of the ones in the US: In most of the Arab League nations, the percentage is a great deal less. In fact, there is or was (I last heard of him about 15 years ago) a very important Saudi imam who insisted that the earth was flat and anyone who said otherwise was an atheist who could be killed and robbed with impunity. In fact the reason two Saudi princes got to ride aboard one of the US space shuttles, about 15 years ago, was so that, as Muslims, they could testify that, yes indeed, the earth was round.

Although the Arabs are credited with inventing algebra and "arabic numerals", it appears more likely that both of those (and other scientific knowledge) was gotten - Borg-like - by the assimilation of conquered peoples (such as India) who already had that knowledge. Although Muslims who have emigrated to America and Europe have been credited with scientific advances, you'd be hard-pressed to name such an advance coming out of a Muslim country in the last five centuries.
