Did you know that the United States Army is concerned with the spiritual well-being of their soldiers? Did you know that if you choose not to believe in the supernatural that the United States Army can consider you unfit to serve? Allow me to enlighten you about an issue that was brought to my attention by my friend, Sgt. Justin Griffith, Fort Bragg, NC. The US Army distributes a mandatory survey called an SFT, which stands for “Soldier Fitness Tracker”. The purpose of this survey is to measure an individual soldier’s competency in four areas, Emotional, Social, Family and Spiritual. Justin is an atheist, as well as a highly dedicated soldier, but according to the SFT, he is “unfit” to serve specifically because he is a non-believer.

Justin informs me that soldiers are directed to answer, on a scale of 1-5, some awkwardly structured questions, such as “My life will have a lasting meaning”, “I feel connected to a being that is greater than me”, “I’m a very spiritual person”. Etc. Justin was “Red Barred” in the Spiritual Competency area. According to the US Army:

- A red bar means that you face some significant challenges in this area. This means that you should focus most of your attention on this area, though you should also note that placing too much emphasis here could result in other dimensions dropping. The key is to properly balance where you need the most development with the areas you are already doing well in.

Here is a direct “Cut & Paste” from his survey results, under the “Spiritual Fitness” category:

Spiritual fitness is an area of possible difficulty for you. You may lack a sense of meaning and purpose in your life. At times, it is hard for you to make sense of what is happening to you and others around you. You may not feel connected to something larger than yourself. You may question your beliefs, principles, and values. Nevertheless, who you are and what you do matter. There are things to do to provide more meaning and purpose in your life. Improving your spiritual fitness should be an important goal. Change is possible, and the relevant self-development training modules will be helpful. If you need further help, please do not hesitate to seek out help from the people you care about and trust – strong people always do. Be patient in your development as it will take time to improve in this area. Still, persistence is key and you will improve here if you make this area a priority.

The arrogance continues… The survey further advises Sgt. Griffith that he may question his beliefs, principles and values and offered suggestions for things to do to provide more meaning and purpose in his life and advised him that improving his spiritual fitness should be an important goal. To add insult to injury, a phone number is offered to connect with a counselor who is ready to assist with a problem that requires immediate attention. To make matters worse, the survey asks for permission to use the data in an anonymously aggregated manner, meaning the results may be used by the U.S. Government and/or the public.

This is not even an insinuation. The US Army has taken the position that a soldier who does not feel connected to a deity is an incomplete person, and that a lack of belief will somehow compromise their principles and values. It’s right there, in black and white. That the US Army would take such a position is deplorable, and the fact that it is mandatory appears to be a direct violation of the First Amendment of the constitution that these very soldiers put themselves in harms way to protect. It is discriminatory in every way and undermines the confidence that every soldier should have that their Government is supportive of them, regardless of their belief or disbelief in a deity.

Justin is spot on when he stated that, “spirituality has nothing to do with being a soldier. That is a private matter for soldiers, and in no way should any command be evaluating how ‘fit’ a soldier is based upon his beliefs or lack thereof”

Well said, my friend, and perhaps an email is in order. Their point of contact is SFT Help Desk, which can be reached via email at helpdesk@a-plus-tech.com, or you can give them a jingle at (202)580-5212.

Those of us who are soldiers, former soldier and old soldiers, we have the likes former Presidents such as Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and to a degree Taft, Lincoln and Washington. Obama has exhibited some promise in the area of recognizing us as complete citizens, but the “opposition” has the senior George Bush making statements like, “I don’t know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God”, and junior George taking direction from his god whether or not to drop bombs. In fact, a February 1989 letter drafted by Bush’s White House counsel reads, “As you are aware, the President is a religious man who neither supports atheism nor believes that atheism should be unnecessarily encouraged or supported by the government.”

Now that our President and Commander-in-Chief has succeeded in repealing DADT, perhaps he should make it very clear to everyone that being an atheist should not have a detrimental effect our soldiers, as well. If you so choose, you can lodge your complaints to the boss here:

Used to be, if you didn't want to be drafted, you pretended to be a homosexual. Well, that won't work any more.

Now, to avoid being drafted, tell them you're an atheist, that you don't pray even in foxholes and you get no holidays in December and (gasp) that you believe in evolution. Let the Creationists and Bible-thumpers be the cannon fodder.

It's amazing that the homosexual issue has had any bearing at all on military service.

Every taxpayer is entitled to equal protection under the law and I believe that will soon be the ruling of the Supremes. Fags pay taxes and should be treated exactly as every other taxpayer.

I oppose homosexuality and think it's abnormal, weird, against scripture and against nature. Personal thoughts or opinions about homosexuality mean nothing in a commercial jurisdiction such as the U.S.

All taxpayers regardless of sexual orientation are equal. It's that simple and the Supremes are just waiting for the opportune moment to say so !

I suppose you think the obese also have some right to force themselves into the Military and disrupt readiness if they pay taxes? Should females who pay taxes be able to force themselves into combat zones because their egos are bigger than their concern for the safety and lives of others who do have enough sense to realize that they aren't physically built with the same strength as men? Should homosexuals even be allowed to become gym teachers in our schools because they pay taxes? No, that doesn't give them some right to a job where others are forced to shower around them or be failed. They don't have a right to force their differences onto Military taxpayers who will be made extra- uncomfortable and extra-distressed in close quarters because of them. Democrats can't seem to do anything ever in any office that isn't a perversion or assault against the Constitution somehow. Republicans aren't much better and they should have filibustered this bill but I will never again cast a vote for a Democrat after all they have done to betray America -- and now this strikedown of any right for heterosexuals to refuse exposure to this demoralizing imposition. Not that our electoral process isn't a shambles and rigged, but a vote for a Democrat is a ringing endorsement for Communism and the destruction of this country, imo. I hope Republicans can muster enough honor to repeal this repeal, however many times it takes. Recruitment isn't likely to be boosted by this. Quite the opposite.

All troops home now, except the homosexuals who slunk in by lying.

You could be accused of putting words in my mouth. Obesity is physically debilitating and a standard can be set for military service that requires physical fitness.

On the other hand we have a government that promotes homosexuality as merely an alternative lifestyle that's "normal".

Now, like I said before, I'm opposed to homosexuality, period. This isn't about moral choices when being considered legally. This is about political correctness and the implementation of a communist/fascist State.

Should females who pay taxes be able to force themselves into combat zones because their egos are bigger than their concern for the safety and lives of others who do have enough sense to realize that they aren't physically built with the same strength as men?

Fire Departments and Police Departments nationwide have been forced to do just that.

I hope Republicans can muster enough honor to repeal this repeal, however many times it takes.

Hope in one hand and shit in the other hand and tell me which hand fills first !!!!!

You: You could be accused of putting words in my mouth.

That wasn't my intent. Sorry if it sseemed that way.

Obesity is physically debilitating and a standard can be set for military service that requires physical fitness.

AIDS is physically debilitating. Homosexuals and bi-sexuals are high-risk for that. People are denied the right to protect themselves from exposure by those who have it because it's duplicitously hushed-up as "policy" in this country to supposedly shield them from "discrimination" in the workplace, etc., very much unlike other communicable diseases -- Cholera and TB for instance. Blood is spilled and splattered in battle. Expecting our Military to increase its risk of AIDS by inserting a high risk carrier group of that blood-borne and bodily fluid-born disease is grounds, imo, for removal of the pushers from public offices as unfit along the lines of Amendment 25, Clause 4.

You: On the other hand we have a government that promotes homosexuality as merely an alternative lifestyle that's "normal".

It's not the government's job to promote homosexuality as a "normal" alternative lifestyle. It's so abnormal that it's genocidal because there would be no human life at all on this planet that way.

Now, like I said before, I'm opposed to homosexuality, period. This isn't about moral choices when being considered legally. This is about political correctness and the implementation of a communist/fascist State.

I agree that this is about political correctness and the implementation of a communist/fascist State. It's also about the so-called "Progressive Democrat" Commie agendists weakening our Military again. Ref: Bill Clinton's policies to deteriorate readiness. Ex: the massive de-armoring of our tanks and wheeled vehicles, the result of which was our troops trying to "up-armor" by using sandbags and scrap to protect themselves and their vehicles from explosions.

Me: Should females who pay taxes be able to force themselves into combat zones because their egos are bigger than their concern for the safety and lives of others who do have enough sense to realize that they aren't physically built with the same strength as men?

You: Fire Departments and Police Departments nationwide have been forced to do just that.

Women with such over-inflated egos should not be allowed to endanger the lives of men and others in any profession. If they want their own combat units without any male back-up, I might not object and they shouldn't either if they really think they're the equivalent of men.

Me: Should homosexuals even be allowed to become gym teachers in our schools because they pay taxes? No, that doesn't give them some right to a job where others are forced to shower around them or be failed. They don't have a right to force their differences onto Military taxpayers who will be made extra- uncomfortable and extra-distressed in close quarters because of them.
