When I was sixteen, my Dad owned a convertible, and he had to travel on business every month. The deal was this: if I would drive him to and from the airport, I could use the convertible while he was away. So Id drive him to Erie International, and Id carry his briefcase and garment bag on the plane, then stand on the tarmac until the jet departed from the gate. And no plane from Erie was ever hijacked anywhere.
Today, I wouldnt be permitted within three hundred yards of the plane.
Somewhere in time, our culture of courage mutated into a culture of cowardice.
Who changed the rules?
